Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Eggs for eating only need to be refrigerated if you wash them (it removes the protective coating - "bloom"). It is not necessary to wash them. Some do some don't. It's a personal preference. After reading about it, we don't wash or refrigerate.
I don't wash but I refrigerate just because I get to many for us to eat and they'll last longer if put in the fridge. And I just have more fridge room than I do counter room. Also, some of the older generation think they go bad if they're not refrigerated instantly! I gave my MIL a dozen and when she saw that I had them on the counter all day she said she would never eat them, they're bad if not refrigerated. I didn't go into an explanation. When people have their mind made up about some things there's no changing them.

Our Meyers babies came in today! My friend and I split an order, so I'm going to pick them up from her house today.

She got:
3 Olive Eggers
2 Easter Eggers
6 Broilers
1 Meyer's Meal Maker

I got:
1 Exchequer Leghorn
1 Easter Egger
1 Speckled Sussex
1 Buff Laced Polish
1 Dominiquer
6 Broilers

All arrived healthy and chirping, and got here MUCH earlier than we expected. We got the notice yesterday that they shipped (about 4:45 pm EST), and her postman called about 11:15 am EST this morning to let her know that he was on her doorstep with a chirping box. My friend and I were VERY upset with our post office because we thought they would hold the box there and call us to come pick it up. We had even called on Friday to confirm that. Fortunately, she is good friends with her postman and had let him know they would be coming as well. He made a special trip out to her place. We are so glad the babies did not have to ride in the truck all day!

I'm going to post better pictures soon!
Very cute!! How are you going to tell the Olive Eggers from the Easter Eggers since you're sharing them with someone? Don't they look alike?

Thank you for the encouragement. The wait was worth the excitement. When I went out to the coop today, I thought I was hallucinating. My second thought was, why would someone leave this out here. Duh!!

Yay! My first egg!!!

Next to a XL from the store. How cute!
Congratulations!! Great color and size!!!

. My Meyer hatchery boys 3 ad a half weeks. Only keeping one but aren't they cute. Barred rocks. Gonna be beautiful roosters
LOL, they look like they're in jail. They're cute!!

Who are you ordering your coop from? It looks really nice.

Our homemade coop works really well. I just wish that the roof was okay and that it did not require the tarp on top of it. It's the tarp that makes it look a little too "homemade". At least they are happy and dry in there and they have plenty of room. I may be adding a nest box or two in there since there is always a line for each box. I thought 4 boxes for 22 chickens would be enough, but guess not.

We are planning on redoing our kitchen and I find myself evaluating the cabinets to see how I can recycle them for the chicken coop. I think I have the perfect one picked out for a new set of nest boxes.

I think of chickens and gardening a little too much especially lately. I am obsessed!

Meyers does not help with those emails and then today Tractor Supply sent an email about chick days starting up!!!!

I need to pick up more feed soon, they gave me a 10% off coupon in the mail too!!!! I have to go, I guess I need to wear blinders and noise canceling headphones so I won't see or hear those cute little ones!
My coop is from a local guy, Tucker's Coops. I'm sure it's the same as from all the other Amish places but he is the closest to us, includes a few things in the base price that other companies don't and will deliver for free, (cause he's not that far) just a small yard placement fee. I'm very happy with the original one from him so I'm sure the next will be good too.
Blinders will def. be in order! Although.... your Rock (Daisy?) is pretty mean... maybe it's time to ''replace'' her?? And then you need a friend or 2 for the new chick. Soooo, just get 3. No biggie :)

How long will they last without refrigeration, if they r not washed?

These are my three eggs. The left one was the first one. The center one was cracked. When I opened it, the inside of the shell was pinkish. And the right one is the biggest so far. I'm almost thinking they look like they could be from three different girls! How could they all hold out on me until the same time?

I say at least 2 girls cause the major difference in color between the first 1 and the other 2 seem similar in color, so I wouldn't want to give an opinion on those. Lol

Thanks. It's just so exciting to find them!! I feel like I waited forever.

Great question! From pictures of chicks that we saw, the Olive Eggers from Meyer are more grayish black. Fortunately, we are friends, so if the chicks get a little mixed up, there won't be any hard feelings!

Yay! Ordered the skelter. Can't wait! By the time it gets here, I should have a nice bunch of eggs. Great deal!

I ordered one too. DH didn't even bat an eye. I just said since we will be having more bantam eggs we need another one so we don't have to still keep an egg carton on the counter. All he wanted to know is whether or not it was the same as the one we already have. Guess he doesn't want them looking differently. lol

I need to setup my brooder tonight. I might be getting some chicks tomorrow. :)

WooHOOOO just ordered mine!! Thank you Thank you :)
I kept putting off ordering one from Amazon and I saw they raised the price a bit and just didn't go through with the order. Must have had a weird feeling
or something.
You're the bomb

We'll all have to post pics of it filled with eggs... we have the NancyBrahma and now the LynnSkelter

"LynnSkelter" I like that!

I did notice that Amazon raised the price. When I ordered mine recently it was 41.89 total with shipping from Amazon. I wish I waited too.

I am still on the fence about ordering another one though.

That's right you're in Amish country in PA. I wish we had some good local craftsmen around us too. I want one for my new kitchen cabinets too!

I like your math too. Although I need to get rid of more then one to add any. I really need to lower my count to 12 and I am at 22, so I have a ways to go.

If I lower to 12 then I can add 4 to 6 more. We realized we only need 12 layers and have younger ones rotating in each year or every other year as the older ones age, get broody, molt, etc. I may give away a few to some some friends or family starting a flock, but they both may be all talk and never get a coop built. Guess we'll see.

Those little chicks are so cute though, hopefully all my planning doesn't go out the window when I see them.

Congrats! Nice eggs, I say for sure you have two with a possibility of three layers. Mine did seem to start within days of each other. I guess those hormones just start flying around the coop.

Oh I know!!! I just put eggs in the bator tonight, so now starts the almost 30 week wait!! Ahhhhhh!!!!
30 weeks is a long time! That's so exciting though!
