Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I'm not doubting you. Just pictured my buffs coming out of a "bath" black as coal. Lol
That would be a sight to see!

YAY for you!! My chicks should be here to me tomorrow too!! I have a tracking number but it hasn't been updated since the chicks left the Cleveland post office late last night. I've been checking it all day today to see where they are, and nothing! Ugh! I sure hope they make it here to Alabama by in the morning...

Yay!!! Any news yet?

I've got Meyer chicks coming tomorrow too, I am so excited. This is my first year ordering, last year we bought some from a feed store and they are doing their job but they didn't have many breeds to choose from so I decided to order from Meyer. I was a little late on ordering, because most female breeds that I thought I wanted I couldn't get until summer so I decided to have them surprise me. I should have 18 total coming, 15 are various breeds from the white, brown, and rare egg assortment. The other 3 will be roosters (Blue Ameraucana, Black Copper Marans, Blue Splash Marans. Not sure if I want 3 roosters but I have none now so I figured it was time to get some.
The rare egg assortment is fun to get, I love surprises too.

Any news on yours?

trsturself: what about you?

Lots of people are getting chicks today, can't wait to see the pics!

They are here! I had one DOA, but all the rest look healthy and are eating and drinking. Not sure which one the DOA one was but it was mostly black with some yellow on its bottom. Any guesses for breeds? One of my light yellow ones looks like it has fuzz all the way down on its toes.

So pleased with Meyer's customer service! I just got a call on the way to pick up my son from pre-school from a very friendly representative who said she had seen we were looking for a colorful egg layer for our son and saw that two Easter Egger females just became available and asked if we would like one or both and if she could add them to our order for us. Now that's caring! We went with the one and now have all six of our chicks reserved! What a relief and a blessing. Thanks again Meyer!

Yay! Maybe the DOA was a Black Australorp? Not sure if you ordered one.

the rest look great! Congrats!

Nope, the only things I know I ordered are a blue copper marans, black copper marans, and a blue amaeraucana. If it helps any it also had a black beak and mostly black legs and toes as well. I've been trying to look through meyers website but since I am not familiar with all the different breeds I have no idea where to start.

The post office called at 7:30 this morning, saying that they had a package for me that was chirping!! My husband dropped two very unhappy kids off at school and went straight to the post office to pick up our new babies.

All 34 birds are alive and seem to be doing very well. The heat packs in the bottom were even still warm. I have one who seems "sleepy". She did drink the water mixture and is warming under the lamp, but she just wants to sleep. Most of the others are hopping around and chirping and biting at each others toes and eating.

I only have single photos of one of my two blue splash Marans and one other of two dark chicks. I was going to try to take pics of them, as I was dipping their beaks, but being the perfectionist that I am, and hearing all those thirsty babies waiting to drink, I couldn't take the time to do that. So I will post the pics that I have taken and maybe when my son gets home from school, I can post a few more with his help.

I think there may have been a little mess up with my order because I have two more feathered leg chicks than I ordered. I'm thinking that I may have gotten Partridge Cochins instead of the substituted Patridge Rocks that were supposed to be substituted for my Dominiques that didn't hatch out. That's the only thing I can figure because they have heavy feathered legs and are dark chicks, and look like the partridge cochin pics in the Meyer catalog to me. Who knows...lol. Time will tell, right? They are beautiful birds, but the only thing that bothers me a little about that is that cochins are only fair layers and I had picked the Partridge Rocks because they are good layers.

So, here are my babies all together right after I got finished making sure they all got a drink. I'm getting ready to move them to two brooders.

The way they arrived.

One of my two Blue Splash Marans. Should be easy to tell them apart for a while. This one is gray, the other is more yellow.

One on the left is the Partridge Cochin (I think) that was supposed to be a Partridge Rock. The other is one of two Blue Andalusians.

This is the whole group before I divided them up into their two brooders.

I will most likely get much of nothing done today for checking on this weak chick and just watching them. I have chick fever bad! Can't wait to see everybody's pics!

They are awesome!!

Sorry about your DOA... Maybe a Barred Rock or Black Jersey Giant?? Just trying to think of black chicks with a little light on them. And your light yellow with fuzz on the toes could be a white cochin or even a splash maran! Time will tell...

ETA: If the yellow one with fuzzy legs has 5 toes and a fuzzy face, it's a Salmon Faverolles!

Nice congratulations!!! Did your chicks match the packing slip on the inside of the lid?

They are all adorable. Hope the little weak one does okay and perks up soon. Electrolyte water helps too, if you are not doing that already.

Your kids are going to love it when they get home today!

My 5 Meyer chickens are all about seven months old now. One of my silkies went broody for the first time last week. After researching on here ways to break broodiness, I decided to go with an unconventional method...I bought her two fertile eggs
hmm.png
She is just so cute sitting in the nest and I couldn't bring myself to pull her off!!! Someone local sold me two cream legbar eggs, so if she hatches them I'll at least know their sexes. We can't have roosters here in San Diego.
How fun... Cream Legbar are on my short list! Would love those blue eggs and they seem like a nice breed to have in the flock.

I originally had two EE's from my very first order and Olivia (Haddie) is one of those, she lays a more olive green egg.

Maddie was her sister and she laid a more greenish olive egg, but she was one of the ones killed by the dog, so we did not get many from her since she had just started laying.

Greta lays a more mint green egg, she is one of the younger ones that I ordered for replacement of my flock. Her sister Ellie that I got too lays a mint blueish green egg.

So all 4 were green/blue layers, just have the three now.
I always remember Haddie and Maddie and I knew one changed names so I got all confused. I'm def. getting 2 more EE's in April or 1 EE and one Ameraucana but I'm not sure if the local breeder will have the Amer. around when I'm getting my other chicks. So we'll see. Love the different EEs!

Wood ash? As in, burn wood and use the left over ashes? Does that not make them like REALLY dirty and black looking?? Lol
I use ash too and I have a white cochin that doesn't come out dirty. I use wood ash, sand and DE for a small dust bath area. Othewise in the summer/spring they just use sand in the run.

Congrast... so cute!! Sorry about the do a. could it have been your ameraucana?

Wonderful!!! That's a lot of chicks

give the sleepy one some extra care/baby vitamins without iron if you have it or Poultry Nutri Drench and hopefully it will be ok.
