Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I can do the portioned off part in the run but not the coop. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes and hope for the best. But I can let them hang out during the day together for a few weeks so they really get to know each other and then add them at night to the coop. That will be one sleepless night for me I'm sure.
I just used fencing inside the coop (just fence and temporary staples) for a inside place for them that had roosts, then for the outside I had fencing too with removable posts. I moved them back and forth for a couple weeks. Then I flipped the fencing over to where the 4 x 4 inch holes were on the bottom so they could go in and out on their own. Eventually they slowly would sneak up to the main roosts with the big girls. I left the outside fencing in the run up so they could run and hide for a few weeks until they could no longer fit in the 4 x 4 inch holes. By then they were big enough to take care of themselves anyway.

Now if you have a broody hen that will take in those chicks, you may be able to avoid any of the trouble since she'll protect them.

I was the same way too, I lost sleep worried about them.

That's exciting that you're getting more!

Thanks! I got the email too and signed up to receive mine. the coupon books are limited so if anyone else once one, it'd be good to sign up soon, just FYI.

That's what we did too, a smaller enclosed area for the little ones during the day then back to their brooder at night for about a week. Then we would open their area to the bigger area but left a small opening that only they could fit through so they had a safe spot to run from the big girls. There was a little picking but nothing big. After a few days of this we put them in the coop at night but left that hide out for them during the day. There were never any problems at night. The young ones usually slept on the floor at first so they weren't a threat to the big girls.
After awhile they stopped using the hideout and just got out of the way of the big girls.

DH and I were just talking today about plans for a small addition to the existing run that can be partitioned off when we have little ones, a sick one, or any other reason we might need to separate one, with it's own mini coop attached.
Nice, I love it when my DH agrees to make coop/run improvements! Can't wait to see your new project.

This one arrived yesterday in a new shipment from Meyer. She's a little Easter Egger. She reminds me of Marilyn Monroe, with her little beauty mark

Ooooh, I can call her 'Marihen Monroe'!
Just way too adorable!!! Love the name idea too!

Here's the pictures:
Splash Laced Red Wyandotte, I have 2 of these

Blue Laced Red Wyandotte , 2 of these

Black Laced Red Wyandotte, 2 of these also. I am really happy that I received all 3 colors

5 Speckled Sussex pullets, in the middle of the pic and behind her to her right.

And 27 CornishX broilers, too bad they don't stay cuter longer

So cute!!! Congrats!

Well, Lilly (BA) and possibly Amber (clean faced EE) are going to go live with our family friend that took in the rest of my chickens. The backyard chicken ordinance was passed

, but I am only allowed to have at most, 6 hens.

I am most definitely re-homing Lilly and my RIR/BO mix (not from Meyer) because they have been beating up on Ellie (EE) really bad, and I can't get them to stop. Amber is kind of aggressive towards the other girls, but not nearly as bad. So I have to wait and see how she does when the other two trouble makers aren't around.

I really like Amber. She is such a goofy chicken, so I would hate to have to get rid of her.

In a few years if everything goes well and the city council doesn't get too many complaints from people about chickens, they are going to bump the number allowed up to 8 or 10 hens. If or when that happens, I will definitely be ordering more girls from Meyer. I even have a wish list all picked out...

I hope everything settles down for you and you can get a bigger flock soon. I am so sorry you have to go through all this, must be so frustrating.

Love all the baby pics!!

I hope Amber is a quite fix and back to health soon.

My AM eggs are rocking. These last few weeks have actually gone by fast! Thank you to whoever said "stay busy" because I HAVE! And time just flew.
Yay, "rocking eggs"!!!

Olive's crop is impacted. It's huge. Now what do I do? I gave her a warm bath and cleaned her up. I fed her some oil. When I massaged her, it was coming up, so I stopped. I don't want her to drown. I took the food and water out for the night. Any advice would be great.

On a more positive note, after coming in from all that, I found something running around in my bator.

Good luck with your sick girl, I don't have any useful advice, I lost the only bird that had impacted crop :( Not to be depressing or anything, this was quite a few years ago and I didn't catch it until too late.
On the bright side, you already have a little peep to keep you glued to the bator. Now I hope the rest follow her example and kick those shells to the curb PRONTO! :D

We won't start the run addition until next week probably. This week we tore down an ugly falling down little retaining wall and rebuilt it. It was full of rocks. Who sections off a section of their yard with a retaining wall an then fills the area in with rocks? We took all the rocks out and filled in the area with dirt. We will have 2 raspberry and a blueberry bush in there once we finish spreading the dirt. Can't wait for them to produce fruit! Here is the original wall after we took the rocks out.

And here it is with the new wall and some more dirt

I've also been working on an electronic door for the chicken coop. I got the electronics sorted out at the beginning of the week then today DH and I built the door part and hooked it all up. Now we just need to install it in the coop and make sure everything works correctly. The spool is hanging off the drill because I need to glue it in. The green is tape covering all the wires so the chickens won't peck at them and tear them off. The plastic container houses the electrical components. I can't wait for this to be installed and I trust it. It will be so nice to not have to get out of bed just to let the chickens out or fight my daughter to go put them up when it's dark and cold out.

We are putting on an insect hotel class tomorrow for our homeschool group so we were getting all the supplies ready for that.
Hopefully we'll get to the grow out pen next week. Our chicks are getting big! The chicken swap isn't until next saturday. Hopefully we'll get rid of a few chicks then.

Oh, forgot to mention an update on Amber. She still hasn't laid an egg but she is getting back to her old self. She was walking around with the other chickens scratching and pecking at the ground. She even flew out of the garden area to explore the yard with the other girls. Her tail is back to a normal position and she isn't hunched over and fluffed up anymore. I made her eat some cottage cheese and she ate 2 bites on her own but then lost interest and fought me on the force feeding. She looks at the food the other girls are eating but doesn't go for it. I've seen her take a couple bites but not a lot. I haven't seen her drink at all (other than what I forced on her). Hopefully tomorrow she'll be back to eating/drinking on her own.

She is stinkin' cute!! I hope you post pics as she grows; I'd love to see how she feathers out

Thanks for the tips, I remember your stories of when you added your little ones and they would run and hide from the big ones and sneak their food! My cochin was broody 2X last year and that would be perfect if it happened again and could raise them. I hadn't even thought of that.

Oh gosh, so sorry for Olive. I haven't had this problem yet but from what I've read you're doing the right thing. How is she today?

Fingers crossed for amber

Mmm blueberry and raspberry bushes... yum. We have some kind of wild berry bushes all over our area, they look like raspberries, and it's heaven the beginning of August when they come out. The kids got so mad when I'd feed them to the chickens last year. They didn't want to share.
