Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

This is my layer coop and run. Right now the run is divided to separate my 9 layers and my 26 8 week old chicks they have a small brooder that I can put a heat lamp in when it gets cold but I have not used it in a while. The layer coop is still under construction but they are using it now. I need to get it closed in a bit before next winter. Should be good for about 25 layers and part of the run will be separated for a breeding coop.

That is a really nice setup! I can't wait to build fully enclosed runs when we get our own house.

I didn't get a meal maker with this order. I should've but I totally forgot about it. I got one last year. It turned out to be a white leghorn pullet. I gave her to a friend that needs the eggs. She loves her. :)

I just moved my babies out to the big brooder too. I finally got my small coop divided in half so one side is for my fancy chickens(plus the amputee partridge rock hen) and the other side is for the babies. Its an 8x8 ft shed so the sections are 4x8 ft approximately. It looks like it will work pretty well, though the fancies are miffed at me because they were use to having the entire coop to themselves. I used two 2x4s to frame the divider wall; hardware cloth on the bottom and chicken wire on the top. I decided to go with hardware cloth because I was worried that the adult birds could reach/injure babies through the chicken wire. By the time the babies can get up on the roost, they should be too large to fit through the chicken wire.

I have 2 week old Freedom Rangers from TSC in there with my week old Meyer babies. Now they finally have room to stretch their wings and run around

Somehow I missed this picture before, that is a great idea, I just may steal it in the future! Mostly wire and a couple boards? I can handle that.

Nice setup, lucky chicks/chickens!

That's awesome!! lol... I'm looking for the perfect sized cardboard box to use as mine. I'm a disgrace to the chicken world.

Again.... fantastic!!! I don't think they make a cardboard box big enough for all those chicks

That's really nice! Such a big run and they get to free range too? Great job :)
Hey, we made a special brooder for our 2nd batch then switched to a huge cardboard box for our last 16 in our 3rd order. Whatever works!

That's the bad thing... I've never been to a feed store to 'shop' for chicks. At least I know I have a limit so there's only so much damage I can do.

Oh my goodness, I didn't think of that... she probably pulled them out last year and I never noticed! I'm so glad I didn't know about it because I would have been worried about her bare spots and our frigid winter. Poor girl.
I'm sure I'll post pics but as they're not from Meyer I won't be a pain about it.
I'm going to start looking for a crate the size of yours. I only have one that we used for guinea pigs and it's pretty small. I did put my broody in it last year but she was pretty cramped in it.
Of course we want to see your new chicks too. They'll be sisters to your Meyer's chicks, so they're still in the family!

I do have the 2 small dog carriers that to use as broody cages, but I wanted Daisy to have more room to move around since she needs to be in jail for a week, plus there was room for a roost too. She laid an egg on the floor of the cage today, so I guess she is not too stressed.

My four girls from Meyer hatchery! I live close so I drove to pick them up. They are 4 weeks old now and 3 weeks old in the picture. I have Speckled Sussex (Jordan), Buff Orpington (Goldie), Lavender Orpington (Beatrice), and Blue Orpington (Roseanne)! They are all so sweet and booming with personality.
Oh wow, they are adorable! I can't wait to see the different colored feathers on all of them. I didn't even realize they had so many colors in Orpingtons. I have a Buff and she is huge and beautiful.

My first brooder was a portable dog pen with a cardboard ring for draft protection. If I could have kept the chicks in it until they were ready to go out to the coop, that would have been fine with me. Unfortunately, there are too many to keep in that small space and I needed to move them out to the garage. My husband is a materials horder, so, we had almost everything we needed to build the new brooder. We spent about $20 on the whole project because we only had to buy a couple of hinges and 2x2s for the removable top. If I had to buy all the materials, I would have been trolling appliance stores looking for a refrigerator-sized cardboard box!!!

My husband is a materials hoarder too. I used to complain about it but not anymore since it has saved us so much with building things for the chickens. He has also gotten a variety of tools and equipment (toys) that have come in great use lately. I like to encourage some of this hoarding now and I also encourage the requirement of tools that would be useful for building stuff since a lot of this stuff will be for my projects too!

Cure pictures everyone, thanks. I hope you are right and they come Wednesday.

I am getting 4 olive eggers
7 delawares
3 marans mixes
3 golden buff
3 different polish and
1 meal maker.

Did you get a meal maker trustyourself?
All of you with these Olive Eggers, I can't wait to see what kind of eggs you get in 20 or so weeks!

I got a Barred Rock in my first order and a Golden Sex Link (Production Red) in my 3rd order for Meal Makers. I give away a lot of eggs! So they are serving their purpose well!

Week old pullets from Meyers:

What kind are all of these? Congrats, they are cute!

OH! I just checked and they changed the delivery date to Wednesday!! Phew!
Yay!!! Excited for you!! You'll get them tomorrow!!!! I may have missed it, but are these your 1st chicks? What kind of setup do you have?

I woke up to three notifications from the USPS! They were accepted, and processed (hehe..I hope they didn't process them

) then departed Cleveland this morning!
No, not my first chicks. The first chicks I have ordered from a hatchery. I really, really, really wanted olive eggers so I bit the bullet and ordered some. While I was at it I orders a few more

I hope that they still come tomorrow though. It is so aggravating waiting on them and worrying.
