Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Lice you should be able to see on the bird, they like to congregate at the tail base and in the neck feathers. If it looks like a heavy infestation I will dust the bird by hand with pyrmetherine (sp?) dust. If its not too bad I just mix the dust in with their dust bath dirt.

Sorry Lynn, it just looked the poor girl was getting plucked by the rooster.

Edit
Oops sorry NANCY, not Lynn... ugh its been a loooong day

Yes, I could see the eggs and I also could see the bugs on her.

Thanks everyone. I'll check them out really well this weekend and do what I gotta do :)

I have to admit that I thought lice and mites would be a problem in the summer months. I better get my prep together too. I've read mites will gather around feather shafts. Has anyone noticed this to be true? Anything else to look out for?

Also my buff brahma seems to be hot already! It was over 80 degrees today and yesterday and both days she seems to be panting a little. I'm a little concerned. I added electrolytes to their water. I'm worried when it will be over 90 and 100 degrees.

Oh goodness. I just changed my order AGAIN! I had to get another light brahma, so one of those, a black copper marans, and a lavender orp. I can't believe I spent $35 on one chick, but the hubby thought it would be really cool to have a purple chicken. Anything I can of to get him onboard is a bonus! I'm pretty excited myself. But this pushes back my chicks from May until August. Hoping the orp is as stunning as the pics. Anybody have one yet?

We had some really hot days last summer and my BB seemed fine through it. The only one that panted a lot was one of my EE's. But she pants every time she lays an egg

LOL Can't wait to see your purple chicken!! That would be really cool!!!

I was thinking of just getting a large or XL dog crate to use as a grow out pen for a few weeks.... has anyone done this??

I'm going to a party in about 2 weeks (going away party for a friend's son that is joining the Navy and the mom is the one that gave me the wine for my eggs) and my sister and I came up with the idea to bring eggs and write my email/phone # on each egg instead of business cards! These are all the people that I would be selling to so I def want to do some type of 'marketing' at the party. Any other ideas?? I think I have 2 takers already on my bartering idea... sounds like I will be getting a lot of wine :) Funny thing is, I don't drink it. But DH does so that's just as good. LOL Keep the hubby happy

That sounds like a great marketing idea! Party stores and craft stores sell individual cupcake holders and small Chinese food containers, maybe you can package each egg in one of those with some shredded paper or Easter grass for safe traveling? You could make labels for the containers or put your info inside. Just a thought. Good luck.

I'm going to check that out!! party is the night before easter too. see through containers would be ideal so i could put different colored eggs in each one and everyone could see them. although i don't want to hijack the party LOL
