Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

This may sound crazy, but when I was having issues with Olive, I started several new threads until someone would respond.

Everything I can find says either one is picking off feathers of the others or lice. I hate this because it seems like you never know what's wrong or what to do. Perhaps treat for lice and keep an eye out to see if one is peaking feathers off the others. Wish I could help!
Thanks!! I guess I have to assume it's mites or lice and really rub them down with the Sevin, do the coop again and retreat in 7 days or is is 10 days?? I've seen both.

Then I guess I'll do it every 6 months. Figures, I am a fanatic about cleaning my coop/run. I clean the poop board every single morning and even use the kitty litter scoop in the run at LEAST 2x and day but usually 3. I remove at least 1 1/2 small tin buckets of poo every day! My neighbors clean the coop every 6 months, it stinks to high heaven and not a single bug. Sheesh.

You don't think the Sevin will cause more irritation on the red skin?

I started a thread about my girls' issues and included these pics but no one has responded ... My BR's belly is so red I don't know if I should put something on it. Middle pic is my Cuckoo Marans and her chest just looks really dry and the first is my BA. Looks a bit worse than the other day. I just went out after they had been asleep for a few hours to check for mites with the flashlight and saw nothing. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad. At least I would know if it was that. I went to my feed store today and showed the chicken guy my pics and he said others have come in with the same issues and and he's not sure what it is. He thought maybe I should worm them. Anyone think that would help? I thoroughly cleaned the coop yesterday and sprayed the walls with Sevin and put the powder everywhere but I didn't individually dust them because of their dry/red bellies. I didn't want to cause more problems. They do have lots of fresh wood ash, DE and Sevin to dust bathe in and most were doing it yesterday. Any help is most appreciated :idunno I'm really at a loss
Have you changed anything in their diet? Didn't know if they could be lacking something that is making them pull out the feathers. Or possibly they are becoming broody? I've seen other hens that pull out their chest/belly feathers to get their skin closest to the eggs. I hope you figure it out! I hate it when there is something wrong with my girls especially when they can't talk to let you know what's wrong!

Dominique

Standard Buff Brahma

Speckled Sussex
We ordered these gals last May. The Sussex and Dominique lay nearly everyday and the Brahma finally (!) laid her first egg today. We have 4 ducks scheduled for March and 9 more chicks for April, can't wait, seems like it is taking forever to get here. Even have the countdown timer on the phone going...
Some birds i would love to get just for the look of the bird are easily your dominique and your sussex drop dead lovely birds

Thank you... in all my research I haven't seen that. I'm going to dust them each with Sevin this morning and tackle the coop again. Hopefull that's it!

I would take them to a vet but none around here treat them. I do have one connection of a livestock vet but she doesn't typically treat chickens and it's $175 for her to come to the house.
I think I'll treat them first myself because for $175 she is probably as clueless as me! LOL

I was thinking it was the feed as well. Not the broody thing just because I've had a broody before and none of the ones with missing feathers are showing any signs. The feed store had Feather Fixer feed (just started carrying it this month!) so I got 40lb of that to add to the feed they already get. I'll put it in just part of the regular feeder. I think it was back in Jan or Feb, can't remember unless I look back at our thread, but they all stopped eating their feed and I thought it was moldy/old or something so I switched them to Agway feed. They seem to love it and it smells so nice. Much better looking than the Purina. We have very few choices here since there chicken keeping isn't a big thing around here. There are no feeds with animal protein so maybe I have to start giving them more protein myself. Thanks!!

Can I just say I love our thread... you guys are the best

I just ordered chicken health book too! Can't wait to study it. I'm hoping it will help with diagnosis faster and more accurate. Good luck, Nancy. Keep us updated. I'm sure one of us with have to deal with this at some point too.
