Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I picked up my babies from Meyer yesterday!

blue Cochin. Anyone know if this is indeed going to be a blue pullet? I have no experience telling splash from blue at this age. I know black actually has black fluff so I'm ruling that out...

I got 2 welsummers and a speckled Sussex, I think the bottom picture is the Sussex and the top is a welsummer, they look so similar...

my Ameraucana hen with the Easter egger chick can't keep my eyes off em, they are so cute together!

2 cream legbar pullets that are a week old... Got them from a BYC'er that lives near me!

Very beautiful! So jealous of the Ameraucana and Easter Egger. I want some! I guess I have to be careful of the chicken math, too!

So I decided to let them free range again and they are only nibbling on the weed in question so I'm sure it's ok. They just love it outside ... obviously.

And I forget who asked about the heated water set up but here are pics...

first is the gutter system and it filters through a sophisticated system of soda bottle, mesh and fabric into a trash can




the trashcan has the heater in it and the water goes through that tube through a hole in the run wall...

and out this decorative ram head fountain that's hanging on the run wall ...


It's pretty cool. I just flip a switch and the water turns on/off. There's some kind of pump in the trashcan as well.
My DH set it up and I don't know exactly how it works but all I know is it's awesome!!

LOL, I KNOW!!! A friend of mine is getting some 6-10 week old pullets from a place about 50 min from here called LancasterFancyFowl (www.lancasterfancyfowl.com) and they are absolutely beautiful birds...
Their Salmon Faverolle's, Lavender Orps, Silkies and Black Copper Marans are gorgeous! But really pricey. That could be dangerous going there.

You're birds are definitely loving the great outdoors! I am sure they have enough good things to nibble on to keep them away from the bad weeds. Cute Corgy!

I really want to start letting my girls free range. I've been worried about predators but think under supervision it would be ok. How would I begin this? Just an hour before sunset and they go back in the coop themselves?? I'm nervous about trying to herd them back in once I let them out.

We trained our birds to come when we call "chick chick chick" so anytime we want them back in their area I just go in there with some treats and call to them. They come running from wherever they are to see what I have. If you don't have that option then yes, they'll start heading back around sunset. I had a few that didn't go in the first time they were allowed in the yard though. I found them roosting on the edge of my garden beds. Luckily they were already in roosting mode so I was able to walk over to them and pick them up and put them in the coop. We always count our girls before shutting them up to make sure they all made it back in. We haven't been missing one since the beginning.

Chicken math is taking over our house. Counting all the chicks we are keeping we are up to 18 chickens! We need to find a new place to live pretty quick.

I love the rain water on a switch. That's nice!

It looks like a blue cochin to me. The splash are usually yellow as chicks.

I let them out at about 7 pm and they start heading into the coop about 7:45 so I just did the chick chick chick call and they came running. I was afraid of them not going back into the run but whenever I walked in there a few would run in to see what I was up to. It's only the 3rd time letting them out so they all stuck pretty close to the coop and all hung together too. My 2 biggest predators are dogs and hawks (fox and raccoon but they won't come around if I'm right there with them) and I think a few hours before dark are the safest times to let them out. We'll just stick to this schedule for a while and see how it goes. It was so nice to watch them scratching and running around! You should do it!!

So my meyers chicks are 2 weeks old today and they are growing fast! I'm noticing that what looks to be my meal maker's wings are growing out differently than the rest of the flock. Any ideas of what type of breed she is? I rule out buff orpington.
