Uh, oh....I think I broke the meyer webpage....

Can anyone else get on it?

ETA - It is back up - down for about 10 minutes...the scariest 10 minutes of my life!

I'm so glad you didn't break it. I've been refreshing disappointedly all day. If it was broken, I would have lost my mind. AND while at work. Lol. They already think I'm nuts! Crazy lady searching for chickens that lay blue eggs. Yep, that's me!

I decided to have some fun and select one photo from each day with our chicks, starting with the first 50! There were only a few days I didn't take any pics so I selected a photo from the day before or after as most had lots. Today is day 51, hard to believe. This weekend we finished the girl's tractor/movable pen for grazing (they will also have a larger run attached to the coop with hardware cloth). We also made some progress on the coop, I was in charge of measuring, cutting and installing the insulation, fun job on and 88 degree day, we just need to put up the roof and my husband needs to figure out the doors and attach the perch and poop board. We gave the girls lots of shade in the tractor, watermelon as well as ice and mint in their water but after reading the Chicken Chicks article last night on keeping chicks safe in the heat I realize we should have misted them and perhaps dunked Amelia who was panting and spreading her wings away from her body while resting. I put some electrolytes in their water this morning and everyone is doing well. Anywho pics:

That's great!!! Love the pics. I'm so bad. I had tons of my first group of chicks and not many of my 2nd. I gotta get better.

Just thought I'd share my Meyers girls....
Kiwi (alpha):

Persimmon:

Apricot was in the nest box.

And this is my boy (not Meyers) I am keeping.

I just need a name for him. Since my girls are named after foods, I kinda wanted to stick with that. My hubby calls him fluffy. Lol. I'm thinking Pepper, Licorice, or Mr Tea. Oh decisions.
So pretty!! How bout BL short for black licorice. or Mr. Coffee? I like pepper too though. I'd end up calling him peppy for short though.

I might quite be insane....

But last night I was at a cook-out with a bunch of friends & got to talking to one of my friends who has a bunch of chickens... she's such an enabler, as we all are!

One of my local silkie breeder contacts has recently been in contact with me about chicks that he has...I might be going out there tomorrow afternoon to take a look at them! They have someone coming out tonight to look, but they aren't sure how many these people are going to take!

He's going to text me afterwards and let me know if there are any left...but they do hatch on a regular cycle. Since the silkies are quite fragile, they will be a little hardier when the big troop arrives!
Any news yet??

Picked up my Meyer's babies today. Couldn't be happier (well unless my Grandson was visiting from NC ;)

Adorable and great breeds.

Those are definitely great choices! I wanted a salmon favorelle but they were out on my hatch day

. Oh well there is always next time though!

Yup, a SF is on my list too!!

You guys are so funny!!! I think I'd be doing the same thing for blue eggs.

I've been pm'ing someone about my hens conditions and so far she thinks... some picking going on that's why the 2 are losing head feathers, the bellies are bare (on 3) because of picking them out themselves when they lay an egg and my BR's is red because of irritation from the roost since there's no feathers to keep it protected. I do think that's all possible. But my egg production is kinda low 4-6 eggs from 10 girls, but one is broody and I swear my one BA doesn't lay at all! So 4-6 from 8 layers? Maybe that's right? Anyway.. the worst one is Moe (cochin) and I just sent these pics of her back...

see how the feather shaft is bare then plume on the ends? And tons of broken feathers everywhere even her feet.

a few others...

Any thoughts????

All I can say is "Ouch!" I feel so bad for her. I wish I could help, but, I have no idea what it could be. It's seems like you have ruled out all the obvious causes. Good luck! I hope she is better soon!

I think that's probably very common and I'm sure will happen to me with future flocks. A friend of mine in real life got chicks a week after I did to cheer herself up after being so excited for me. She has had chickens for at least 6 years and brought in several batches, from a preschool and such. I was expecting more pics from her on FB but I know she is busy with two human children and one of their goats had twins and they are starting bee keeping plus the first batch isn't quite as novel even though you still adore them. But I still think it is fun to document.

I'm glad I didn't break it too! What was REALLY funny, was about the time the site when down, I got a call from an 888 #...I seriously thought for a second that Meyer's was calling me to ask me to stop refreshing so much since I was overloading the servers!

We are serious about some blue eggs...not MAYBE blue eggs, but REAL blue eggs.

And I DO home some news about the Silkies...

Meet the girls! Or at least I hope 1 of them is a girl! 1 seriously has the disposition of a boy...sitting on the other one in the box all the way home POOPING on his sibling. They boy had to get baths! But there they are, all fluffy clean! The breeder couldn't remember their exact hatch date, but thought they were about a week & a half old. They are both buff. I got to see the dad, as he was out free ranging - he was gorgeous! Came right up, nudged my leg & was not happy when I didn't have meal worms for him! Then he looked in the tub at the babies, puffed his chest and gave a cock-a-doodle-doo. My son thought that was the funniest thing EVER!

Nancy- maybe she just needs more time for the feathers to grow back? Have you thought about trying to switch to deep litter instead of sand in the coop?

I am on my tablet and the reply function does not work too well. Also Nancy, she looks good otherwise and I can see the new feather shafts coming in on the pictures. She probably won't lay any eggs for awhile since she needs that protein for those feathers coming in. Some chickens just have an ugly and long molt. My BR Pepper sure did. I've also heard the DL method helps with everything, so that's why I mentioned it.

I broke something today too. My broody is finally broken. Took 4 nights in the broody breaker.

Beautiful! Congrats! Now you finally have some chicks!

Nancy - I do have a thought about your hen with the feathers...

So you have sand in your run? What kind of sand? There is something called sand fleas. I've heard of them being passed through construction sand, etc - even the kinds that have been washed. Are there are bite marks on her? They would look like normal flea like marks - red, raised bumps. It might be hard to see them on a chicken though, since the "bite" may look like an irritated feather shaft/pore. It might be worth doing some treatments with poultry protector or DE.

Of course, I might be completely off base.
