Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Pretty boy! I have a female named Pepper, she is a BR.

I don't know, I think it would be cool to wake up to hatching chicks climbing off the skelter onto the counter.

Great news!

Somehow, someway guess we all have!

I've had tons of questions about my eggs on the skelter. So far no refusals to take any. I did have one person say they would not get eggs from me if I had a rooster, they're afraid they may crack it open and a chick would fall out.

I tried to explain why it would not happen.

I got more complaints about keeping my tomatoes on the counter then in the frig. This was my SIL, she stayed with us for a month and she would always put the tomatoes in the frig. I argued that it is best to store them on the counter and finally gave up and let her put them in the frig. She lives overseas, so I figured I'd keep the piece and not argue. I only see her every 20 years or so.

I loved it when the kids were around 6 years old, great times. We feel like their heroes then, plus we can do no wrong. Much better then when they hit those teenage years!
You would think living overseas your SIL wouldn't put tomatoes in the fridge. I thought they left everything out and shopped daily. I guess it depends on where she lives.
Yup, best to just give in a few days that cause a ruckus.

I need help identifying these babies..these are at 3 days

I don't know but I love the top pic!! So cute :)

@pipdzipdnreadytogo I love that one of your Ccl's is named Poppy too!

And on the topic of Poppy...Oh my almost had a heart attack last night! I went to close all my girls in for the night, and as I walked in the coop I immediately knew one of the chicks were missing! Upon closer inspection, I realized it was Poppy my CCL :,( I searched for almost 2 hours for her, no luck. I was so upset... I thought for sure an owl or hawk got her.

Then this morning, all ready for the Poppy search party to start again, I walked out the back door toward the coop to let the other girls out annnnnd who walks out nonchalantly from underneath the lilac bush by the coop door? POPPY. I have no idea where she was, must have shacked up in a tree or his away somewhere for the night. I'm so relieved I found her, the little brat! She's grounded! Haha

You can tell she had a long night, she's been taking naps between grazing a lot this morning, but seems fine otherwise
Thank goodness you found her... what a stinker. I'm so afraid to let my little ones out to free range. I don't have a fence and I'm afraid they'll run away into the woods or the big ones will chase them away.

thanks I love to take pics so there will be more. Right now they appear single combed but when they are little it's hard to tell. I was lucky and all mine arrived alive and healthy but they were only in USPS hands for less than 24 hours
So lucky you get them that fast!! My PO is incredibly slow. My MIL is only 40 minutes away and it still takes 2-3 days to get a letter from her.

Yes, it's been nerve wracking (to say the least) letting them out in the pasture with the big girls. They've been doing well- much less fighting than when I have introduced older birds to the group. They are fenced in but I still worry about hawks/owls. It doesn't take much to send them running under the bushes, so that makes me feel better.
I have welsummers, but they are only 8 weeks old so I can't really answer most of your questions yet. One is more friendly and outgoing, always chasing bugs. The other is more shy, calm and lazy... That's all is can comment on right now... So far I love em :)

I know, right, they do leave eggs out and were fine with that. I've learned over the years to not sweat the small stuff!

...and wait...Did you just say you're getting more in September?!?? Awesome!! I so want some more too!! Are you going to order from Meyers?

I wonder what the MIL would think of this?!?!

That's great!! I just love it!!! I would so get a kick out of the in-laws seeing this and actually some of my family members too! Of course then they would never eat another one of the eggs from here again!

My DH is building the bridge connector to connect the new run to old one and then I'll start letting them venture in. I may try to rig up a little fenced in area first so they can see each other better for a week or so.

YUP!!! The Meyer 'Basket" has been calling my name and I may go for it. I average 4 eggs a day right now and there's so many issues with my girls.
My BR lays soft shelled eggs (am trying everything with her and if I give her extra calcium her egg is OK but that might be bad for her body. She just randomly drops an egg)
My one BA has a balding head and keeps getting worse no matter what I do
My other BA doesn't lay at all or once a week if lucky
My BB barely lays
My CW is getting the balding head and has had diarrhea for a week now... but eats and acts completely normal
My one EE is a nasty thing and is broody right now
My WC is not laying but she lost half her feathers last week and is finally growing new ones!!
So that leaves 3 reliable layers! I barely have enough to give away let alone sell.

So I want to get 4 good layers, 2 Leghorn and 2 Golden Buff and a couple of dark egg layers and I've always wanted a Faverolle.
I think beginning of Sept is perfect!
And yes, from Meyers!!
Just gotta hit that order button

Wow, when you put it all down together, you do have a lot of issues there. Eggs are very important, so I completely understand. I say this while I eat a couple of jumbo Golden Buff eggs!

That's awesome though! So jealous and happy for you at the same time! Come on, hit that order button, you can do it!!

"Mabey she is, Mabey he isn't?" I love that! Whether she is or he isn't, they are all beautiful!

 Thanks!

I completely agree!!!

I thought my Dellie was a boy for a while. She's so bossy and she was bigger than the other girls. Her comb developed fast too. Thankfully Meyer did it right! Hope the trend continues for us all.

Wondering whether you have a roo is such a hard state of mind to be in.  We ended up giving away our Buckeye before we found out for sure because of his/her behavior towards the other girls and while it was a relief and probably for the best, I still feel a little guilty.

Pipdzipdnreadytogo: Mabey is beautiful!  What kind of behavior is Georgie exhibiting?  Could just be a dominant little girl... but those copper feathers!  I wish Morgaine had some copper on her head and neck already.  She has a bit of copper "mossiness" on her back.  And awww Cuddles!

Georgie is always challenging the other babies. Stands up tall, tail in the air. When I reach into the brooder, he's always the first one there, trying to chest-bump my hands or feet. He pinches a lot, and he grabs and holds on sometimes, too! He just acts an awful lot like the straight run boys I got last year did. :/ Mabey does not exhibit the same behaviors, so I'm still holding out for her to be a her!

Don't get in to much of a funk... that would be a lot of boys for such a small order.  It's so hard to watch and wait though,  Every day looking for more signs of being a boy kind of takes the fun out. Fingers crossed they are all girls!!

That's why I've been questioning it, but it's hard not to see signs when you've already got it in your mind that it's a possibility! This is my third set from Meyer, though, and the first time getting oopsie boys (or at least one), so it still isn't too bad.

Beautiful chicks. Hopefully you do not have boys but the one with the orange feathers coming in? Strong possibility for sure! ;)

Now I don't know on that, because the other BCM is getting orange hackles! But Georgie's growing in wattles already and his feet are as big as some of my adult hens' feet already, so I'm pretty sure he's a boy at this point. I am confident that Louise is a girl, so I guess the orange hackles are just a BCM thing. Now if Mabey would make up his/her mind! :th

I'm guessing I will be checking on the flock about 5x more than usual today!

Phew, glad she's safe! What a swetie!

Hey, how old is your Poppy? My Legbars are about 5 weeks according to the breeder, but neither of them have nearly as much of a crest as your baby! Poppy's just starting to get a tuft of pin feathers on her head.

I also thought I'd let y'all know, my Silkie, Margaret, has gone broody, so I'm letting her sit on some eggs from the flock with the hopes that she'll hatch some offspring from the late Mr. Po. The odds are slim because it's been just a little more than a month since Po was in the flock, but my fingers are crossed and I'll let you know when I candle them at 7 days or so if I see any development in the eggs! :fl
