Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Thanks @LynnEBC. I'll have to look at the hardware store. That's the same kind we got last time, but I must have blocked out what we paid for it! I didn't even think of amazon...duh!

My DH and I have been doing the rounds of various stores in Indiana just this week to figure out how much building a coop and run is gonna cost us. So far we've been to Lowe's (Bloomington), Menards (B'ton), Home Depot (Greenwood), Rural King (B'ton) and Orscheln (Ellettsville). None of them had hardware cloth anywhere near as cheap as Amazon. But that assumes free shipping from Amazon (which we get thru our Prime membership). Not sure how the economics would work if you had to pay for shipping.

We had company over the weekend that hadn't seen my chickens yet but had heard about them for the last 15 months!!! It was so fun to show them off and teach them all about them. Luckily they seemed interested or were good at faking it.
They were shocked that they were so pretty bec. they thought they were just going to be plain white ones or maybe a red one here or there. They loved the Brabanters of course. They also couldn't believe how big the set up is. They were picturing a little coop and maybe 3ft. tall run. LOL. Not quite! The 2 boys that were here are my sons age and they really were fascinated by them. My kids are embarrassed and think its crazy so it was nice to have young ones to show them off to. They were taking pics and hand feeding them and holding a few. It was cute.

:) Same here, the 4th was my dad's 70th birthday so lots of people from out of town. My brother's long time girlfriend and my aunts were particularly excited to see them and were all impressed with how friendly and pretty they were. My nephews also had fun finding dandelion greens and mock strawberries to give the girls. Great to show off and see others excited!

So our girls are 3 months old today! Hard to believe. Today was also their first full day in the run. Since we didn't get the netting on top, I spent most of the day out with them, sitting reading, taking pictures and snuggling with Baby Buff, who hopped up on my lap to give me hugs (with her neck burrowing into my neck) no less than a dozen times. The girls also had fun (and some drama) with their new ball treat dispenser by Manna Pro that I picked up at Tractor Supply Co. this weekend and on their new "jungle gym" or at least the starter version (I just carried in logs and thick branches to make perches but I would like to build upward).

Anywho here is a link to the albumn with pics from today:

I ended up not paying for the 4 ft wide and opting for the 3 ft and sewing the overlap together on the bottom of the run so that no predators could get to my chicken caboodle.

They are so pretty and seem to really like that treat ball.

Didn't hear from the seller of my AM pullets yesterday. I'm hoping no news is good news in this case. Just going to stay extra busy today so I can't think about it. They should be here tomorrow afternoon.

Well, I don't know if y'all remember, but I posted a while back that I was letting my Silkie, Margaret, sit on some eggs with the hopes that she would hatch some of my Meyer Cochin bantam boy Po's babies. Unfortunately, today was day 23 with no sign of hatching, and the nest had begun to stink so I removed the eggs. None were fertile. :(

Aw. :(

Yeah, we have a prime membership too, which for things heavy like hardware cloth it is nice to not to have to pay for shipping.

Always fun to show them off. It looks like they are really enjoying the outside. Great pics!

You also have to look at how thick the hardware cloth is... mine is 19 .. half inch hardware cloth which is pretty durable...
The Amazon one is 19 gauge and that is plenty sturdy for us too.

I ended up not paying for the 4 ft wide and opting for the 3 ft and sewing the overlap together on the bottom of the run so that no predators could get to my chicken caboodle.
We overlapped at the bottom too and put plenty of staples in.

Didn't hear from the seller of my AM pullets yesterday. I'm hoping no news is good news in this case. Just going to stay extra busy today so I can't think about it. They should be here tomorrow afternoon.
Hopefully they will arrive or you'll hear back soon.

I buy my hardware cloth, chicken wire, and welded wire from Amazon. Cheaper than local, and it's delivered to my front door!

Yes I have a Prime membership. As much as I order from Amazon, Prime is well worth it!
