Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I've saved the link to the cheap amazon hardware cloth...another prime member here!

I just sent a text message to the guy who sells the chicken coops on craigslist...fingers crossed we can work something out on delivery & set up!

But in other news - 7 DAYS UNTIL I PICK UP MY CHICKS!!!

I just got off the phone with the guy with the coop - delivery & set up are reasonable! I'm getting the coop next weekend!! WOOHOO!!!!

Anyone know a good place to get 1 gallon of BlackJack 57 cheap? I don't need 5 gallons...

Excellent! How exciting, coop and the new chicks in a week!!!

Our girls put themselves to bed tonight all on their own. As I was cleaning up for dinner I looked at the time- 8:56 and asked the husband if he thought 9 o'clock was a good bedtime. He told me just to wait and see if they did it on their own. It was only their second full day in the run and we just added the rungs to the chicken door ramp. At 9:10 I looked out and the run was empty and I see Amelia in the coop window up on the perch. So we both went out, did a head count, closed the chicken door, locked up and said goodnight. It's a glorious thing not having to chase them! Such big girls now.

In other news today Baby Buff, my snuggly girl is apparently quite possessive of me. I wanted to bond with some of the other girls who have been getting more skittish in the last month and after I let Victoria the Dorking hop of my lap, Baby pecked her. Then later when I had Clara the EEon my lap Baby hopped up onto my knee and tried to start pecking her, I kept blocking her. She didn't come near when I had Morgaine the BCM on my lap though, Morgaine pecks both Baby and Amelia over treats though. Sigh. I was starting to wonder if Baby is more snuggly with me because she is at the bottom of the pecking order or if she is at the bottom of the pecking order because she is so snuggly with me. Of course both could just be because she's an Orpington.

That's great. Eventually they learn, sometimes it seems like forever, but they learn.

Our BO, Big Mama is a sweet chicken too, she does peck the younger ones, but is the lowest on the pecking order of the older hens. BO's are such sweet chickens and I love their personalities!

Oh geez. Priority mail express will be Wednesday delivery. Priority mail express with hold for pickup will deliver Thursday! That's frustrating.

Just figured this out. My PO closes at 12 on Wednesdays. What?! So I won't be able to pick up the newbies till tomorrow. I should be done work at noon. I hope they'll be ok till then. They should be. At least they are probably inside the building. Wow, I hope they are, it is too hot to be in a truck.

While I was studying my chicken health book, yet again, I saw it said to give chickens vitamin c for heat stress. Have any of you done this? I may give it a shot. My brahma is too fluffy for this heat, and my Dellie was panting like crazy while trying to push an egg out. I worry about the heat stressing them out or making them sick. I gave them some cold cucumber, but it didn't snap them out of it like it has in the past. They just look hot and cranky...like me!

I just saw that on their Facebook page. Talk about tempting with those bantams! At least instead of risking getting 3 roosters with straight run chicks, you know you're getting two hens out of the three...

I don't need any more chickens this year... I don't need any more chickens this year...

ETA: Okay, just saw the prices. Temptation is lessening...
