Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Something weird happened yesterday. I was outside most of the day and watched all three girls go into the nest box and each was in there for a while. I expected to collect three eggs from three hens, but there was only one in there. Why would the others go in there if they were not going to lay? Has anybody else ever noticed this?

Are they new layers? I have been having a few go in and sit in the nest box and not lay a darn thing. But being new layers they have to get their "stuff" in order lol. I also have a hen I got from Meyer last year that likes to go in the coop when there is a hen in a nest box and chat with her till she lays an egg then leaves and does an egg song so that everybody knows that a hen laid an egg! Silly girl.

They've been laying since February. This is just the first time I've seen this.

They're similar to us girls, we like to go in groups to the bathroom. Usually the ones of mine who normally hang out together will also hang out together near the nest boxes too and take turns laying. The new ones are probably starting to feel the urge but are just testing things out in the meantime.

I had that happen to me with one of my Dominiques. She is just starting to lay, so, I think she is not certain when she is going to lay an egg. I guess since your hens have been laying for awhile, it is not the same as my situation. Sorry that I can't help.

I am just sayin that Coco, ZsaZsa and Eva are perfect names for those chickens... The best matched name to chicken I have seen thus far.
Thanks... yes those 2 look like their names!! Dolores VanCartier is a pretty great one too!!!!

Mine do this sometimes too and they are my 17 month old girls. Sometimes I get a song and everything and when I go out there... nothing.
Over hatch is great today!
Do you know how hard it was for me to not add on about 12 more chicks before they shipped mine today??? Almost painful. AMAZING breeds!!! But it's also fun to 'want' something and now I can look forward to more in a year

How do you know the exact number that are available?? I don't think I see that on their site.

To funny!!! My second batch of chicks (only 7 rather than 14 the first time) really hang out in pairs so much more than the first group. Maybe because they get chased by the bigger hens and that makes them band together more? I can def. see my little ones hanging out together while they lay their eggs.

@NotableNancy Can't wait to see your new chicks! Of course, we all share your anticipation and will live vicariously through you, so, you had better keep us posted!

So I saw some silkies pop up availible for my hatch date. But while I was talking to Meyers on the phone trying to add them someone else snaged them! Oh it's on now!

Hahaha! Whoever got them better look out!

If you hover over the hatch date, you can see the available counts for each date. Neat feature!

That's great!!! I am so excited for you!!!!
