Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Christine, I don't think you have anything to worry about with the combs on those chicks. Especially the first two with the "wild" feather breeds like Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, Red and Silver Grey Dorkings, Cream Legbars and some Easter Eggers the girls tend to have the V's on the top of their heads, eyeliner and stripes on their back. Those girls have some nice arrows on their heads :)
oh yeah! I forgot about the v's, eyeliner, and stripes! I may be able to calm down a little now.

Melabella a lot of us have ordered from Ideal. There are a lot of threads on Ideal including one for posting photos of Ideal's birds. Put Ideal in the search box. Ideal is a sponsor of this website. I got 15 black sex links from them last year and 51 bantams this year. My 25 assorted feather legged bantam special had 26 that lived and the total cost was only $35.75 and my 25 assorted Silkie special was $37. including shipping. Ideal has advertised specials for this weeks hatch.

I can't believe they can charge so little for shipping. I also have never ordered from them because the site shows illustrations rather than pictures. And the warning of sending extra males is a turnoff. But the price!

I really hope all these new babies are girls. I can see combs on a bunch already. They're almost a week old. I'm getting nervous!

My SS girls are looking just like yours I'm sure you will be fine. I just looked at my two Ameruacanas and the combs look pretty much the same.... Well one looks bigger but I'm still thinking it's ok

I have ordered from Murray McMurray and Ideal. Got my chicks from Murray and while I am very pleased with their birds it took three days for the order to be delivered once shipped and one of those days was sitting in a post office in Dallas. I of ordered twice from Ideal, both times for ducks, and their stock is very nice. I have Khaki Campbells, Blue Swedish and 17 Cayugas, all decent if not perfect examples of their breeds. And, because of where I live, if I get my order in by 5 pm it is at my post office the next morning at 6 am. Can't ask more than that. I will probably use Ideal most of the time unless they just don't have the breeds I am wanting. Oh, and as for the males included for warmth, that is usually only in the colder months. One of my duck orders (in Feb) came with 25 RIR males, the second order was in the late spring for 18 ducks and they did not have any extras included. I was able to get rid of my RIR's to a young girl nearby for her 4H project (and I suspect her parents freezer) but that would have happened to roosters in excess anyway. So take advantage of their great prices and order this time of year when it is warmer.

Yes... looked at a few sites, and most of them are sold out till next spring. Ideal had them and what they also call California White, which I think is like Meyer's Austra White. Has anyone here ever ordered from Ideal? I don't like they only have drawings of their birds. One thing I like about Meyer's website is that they are showing you examples from their breeding stock which I appreciate.

thanks again!

Yup, my middle aged group is from Ideal 1 white Silkie, 2 Cream Brabanters and 2 EE's
The pic I posted recently was of them...

(not the 2 Ccl in the pic)
The silkie is typical hatchery stock with no muff. But the 2 EE's have nice beards.

Above is Leyla my EE from Ideal... pretty coloring

.
Patty my silkie at 12 weeks

I see their chicks all the time, lots of different breeds at my feed store, and they are all nice looking.

Here's our noisiest one, Sally the SF with her deep scratchy clucks and yells, she sounds like a old lady who smoked too much.

They sure are cute chicks. The combs are not too big yet. Try to relax, if you can!

LOL... that sound comparison is so true... they just honk and complain.

My feed store got them once this past spring but they were about a month before the other breeds I wanted so I didn't get them. Also called California Gray's but I'm sure you saw that in looking them up.  They're on my want list for some day.  Sounds like what you are looking for... calm white egg layer.

Is that the Polish in your avatar?  She is so cute!!

uh-oh.   post pics and maybe people here can help sexing :)

That's her. :)

Ok so I realize it is early, very early actually. But these girls are showing combs already! And really, don't we freak out waiting for the chicks? Freak out waiting to sex them? Freak out waiting for the first egg? Lol.

One week old Monday. My biggest culprits are:
Strawberry - speckled Sussex
(I know this breed scares a LOT of people)
400

Pumpkin - welsummer
400

Eggplant - Ameraucana
I will cry if this is another boy ameraucana.
400

Sarsaparilla - cuckoo marans
400

These are single comb breeds, except for the ameraucana so :fl

The only one I'd be worried about is the americauna. It's not about size but ridges. At a young age I could tell the boys from girls in our straight run order by liking for ridges. The girls are basically flat where the boys you can see 3 distinct ridges.

Anybody with a Silver Gray Dorking that can give me any insights to personality. Description says not good with aggressive breeds. Um.... that is about any chicken defending it's pecking order?
