Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

My new avitar is one of our BO x EE mixes, she is already posing at 1 1/2 weeks, a few of them are starting to get puffy cheeks they are getting to be so cute now.

Here is the gang on their new heating pad brooder. I worked on the small coop and plan on moving them tomorrow to their new brooding spot.

One of our dark Cornish is broody, yeah! I was hoping she would have been raising this group of chicks but she didn't care. So I gave her 8 eggs this am, she has been sleeping in the nest box, has no feathers on her chest and belly, and won't stay off the nest long.

Limabean is weening herself from her babies. They will be four weeks old tomorrow. She even laid an egg today. I planned to integrate them, but I left the coop door open and one of the girls got out and my dog was chasing her around....I finally got ahold of the dog-I'm pretty sure now he won't hurt them, but that still makes me nervous. I got the dog inside and decided to let them all get in some free range time. I was going to move the chicks into the grow out area, but those babies are fast. One by one they escaped into the run. That was that. They've actually been doing great and everyone seems adjusted already. The worst part is feeding everyone chick starter because they are such wasters!! I may just start fermenting it to help it last longer.

Limabean is weening herself from her babies. They will be four weeks old tomorrow. She even laid an egg today. When do you switch to grower/broiler?  I know different feed companies recommend different ages.  I switch around 6 weeks with Countryside Organics and the big girls are now on fermented broiler.

I like to switch around 8 weeks. I'll switch as early as 6 weeks to avoid having to buy more. the grower feed seems to last longer.

That was my thought as well. Pandapaws, do you happen to remember if she was more of a light brown chipmunk when little or a darker brown chick (first would be Welsummer second Partridge Rock) of course she could always be a clean faced light legged Easter Egger but unlikely if she has single comb.

Grrr drama in the big girl flock today. For reference Amelia is a Golden Buff and at the bottom of the pecking order, Victoria is a Silver Grey Dorking and is second from the bottom, Clara is an EE and second from the top and Baby is a Buff Orp and is head hen.

Not sure exactly how it happened but I heard some squawking during free range time, I looked over and Victoria, Clara and Amelia are near the coop, Amelia and Clara are flapping at each other and I saw Clara peck Amelia on the head hard. I yelled and the three of them came running toward me. (Baby was in the nest box during this.) I picked up Clara and held her for awhile (she doesn't care for being held, but I kept her still) then I picked up Amelia to see if she was alright and I noticed her head was bloody between the back of her comb and her eye. So I got the first aid kit, cleaned her up, dabbed some Blu-Kote on the area and sent her on her way. Eventually Victoria and Clara both went to the coop to lay, so I led Amelia back, put the little girls away and went inside.

I was making lunch when I heard a commotion and saw that Clara was attacking Amelia again. I ran out there and Amelia was positively jumping at the door to get out. I opened the door, she squatted and I scooped her up and held her. Now Amelia doesn't care much for being held either but she didn't fuss one bit, she seemed scared. After awhile I put her down and checked for eggs. Baby was sitting on hers and Victoria was siting on hers *and* Clara's, clearly wanting to be broody but she doesn't ever commit to it for more than a couple hours. I took Baby out and brought the eggs in then let the girls out again. Victoria stayed in the nest box for awhile. I was happy to have Baby out, hoping she would intervene or act as a buffer and she did the latter for a bit.

Now to Clara's credit Amelia was not being smart and stearing clear, she was getting up in her space while grazing. I had to put my arm between them a few times. Then Baby stopped being a buffer and clearly wanted to go after Amelia as well. They were coming at her from both sides, so I scooped Amelia up and put her on my lap. Big mistake. This infuriated jealous Baby, so I set Amelia on the other side of me and Baby lunged and grabbed her comb between her beak, I yelled and waved a hand at her then Baby flared her hackled and jumped at me. I pinned her to the ground and pushed her beak to the ground in no time. But this clearly was not dying down so I took Amelia back to the run and carried first Baby and then Clara under my arm, into the house and put them in time out in the chicks brooder (as they spend the days outside in a movable pen).

Eventually Victoria came out of the nest box so I let her and Amelia out to free range, mainly because I wanted to make sure Victoria wouldn't attack her and because its a nice mild day. They were fine together, a couple times Victoria hustled Amelia out of a spot she wanted but Victoria doesn't care much for conflict, she just does enough to keep her place. After taking some pics of the chicks and getting really hungry I returned the two big girls to the run and the three littles to their pen. Amelia and Victoria have just been hanging out preening. But I'm going to have to do something before bedtime. The littles aren't ready to sleep in the coop and need their brooder space. I can try reintroducing Baby and Clara this evening and if they are still aggressive they can either sleep in the run or the pen. Wish I had a dog crate at this point.

This is the first time she's a intitiated a hug, probably because I was laying on my side, she can't reach my shoulder when standing on my lay. She did the cute little neck wiggle. <3
