Maybe a partridge cochin? I have one similar but without feathered legs mine is a partridge rock

Yeah thats what i was thinking, but i would of thought a cochin would have a lot more feathering on the legs. :idunno
I have only ever had a bantam cochin before so I'm not real sure.

Maybe it's a mix of some sort? That could possibly explain the lack of feathering. Or maybe they will develop more as they age?

I wonder if maybe they're out of the Olive Egger crosses that Meyer has been making? That would explain why they aren't quite right for any particular breed. I believe Meyer uses their Marans in their OE crosses as well.

Nicdu, it's neat to have chicks the same age--maybe some of ours are siblings! I saw you got a blue ameraucana, too, right? I have been handling the chicks pretty much every day, and encouraging the kids to do so as well (mostly my 6 year old daughter, since the boys are younger). I definitely think that more handling is better than less--they pretty much all hate it at first, but they seem to settle down quickly. One thing we're doing with these guys that we never did before is trying to hold them for a long time while we're sitting still--after just a minute, they relax, and they often perch on our arms or climb up on our chests and doze off. With our chicks in the past, we would hold them for a few minutes, but mostly interacted with them in a more active way, and they never really got comfortable with us holding them. The hard part is just finding time to sit still, given how tight our schedules generally are. In terms of actual handling, ours seem happiest when you keep them close but allow them a little freedom--that is, we don't try too much to stop them from flapping their little wings and squawking, or try to make them stay in your hand or in one spot. We just let them get the flaps out of their system, settle down, walk around on our arms, legs, etc., and find a spot where they are comfortable to perch. This seems to be working better than our socializing efforts in the past (so far!!).

I used to have a Meyers Faverolles, and I don't think she had too much black, but her overall color was darker than it should have been, almost a mahogany rather than a salmon. Her eggs were also almost indistinguishable in color from my SLW. She was very outgoing and friendly, though.
This is very good to know. Thanks! I will persevere in 'torturing' the chickies then

Yes, I got an Blue Ameraucana as well, and she is a firecracker. She's small, but mighty. I was lucky to be able to sang one during the overhatch window. I rarely see them there, so I was pumped to see it for my ship week!

So I'm pretty sure limabean's chicks are two boys and a girl. They will be 8 weeks old tomorrow, so I'll know for sure soon enough. They are pretty flighty, which duh, I shouldn't have let a flighty pullet hatch. Anyway, guess who's at it again?! Golf balls only for her this time! My buff brahma, Apricot, gave it a shot for one day. She is such a sweetie. She would probably raise some really sweet babies if she would stick to sitting.
My list for next year has been narrowed down! LOL. I know, it's still too early to tell. But I'm sold on the silver penciled rock. Anyone have one yet??? I have to have one! And an Olive egger and an exchequer leghorn. Yep, that's all ;) ;)

Did you only receive one like this? Is she from an assortment or did you order particular breeds?
