Ok so I went to MyPetChicken.com and put some lovely birds in my cart and then found shipping was going to be $39.95... LOL! That is more than the chicks cost. Meyer's store is only 1 hour away and I thought about driving down there and making it a field trip for my kids. Has anyone been there? We can buy chicks right from the store right? Is the selection of breeds big from the store?

Call them and ask.

I would assume that you would have to order the chicks for pickup on hatching day. Just showing up hoping that there are the sort of chicks you want might not work so well.
