I ordered a 10 chick layer colored egg assortment from Meyer's Hatchery. Out of the 10 chicks 2 were DOA that happens and I understand it. We are 3 months in with the other 8 and all 8 are ROOSTERS! No hens what so ever. I am so angry!!! They fight something horrible, screaming with pain while one rooster pummels another with his beak. I have never seen this but then again I never had that many roosters. So I am culling them all. I tried to find homes but only got one to a good home. One I am keeping as he is the one that everyone tried to kill. Luckily I had found out early on that I had 4 boys and I got some more pullets but now the rest of them have their tail feather coming in. Long iridescent pointed feathers, red combs and rooster behavior starting. I never had to cull a whole batch of chicks that I raised with a lot of love. I can't keep them together.

Sorry I had to rant, but I will say I would never. never have anything to do with Meyer again.

Was it supposed to be 10 female chicks? Sorry, I'm trying to make sure you ordered 10 chicks that lay colored eggs and not 10 eggs that should hatch into cookies egg layers. I maybe just didn't read it correctly.

If you ordered 10 chicks that were supposed to be all female, contact Meyer, because they have a refund policy for that exact thing, if the chicks were sold sexed.

I did contact them awhile ago they told me to wait until they were 14 weeks old. So I just wrote them again and included photos. I am just amazed that they would make such a gross mistake on sexing chicks.

I agree, I know there is room for error with the process, but to miss that many is seemingly not okay, nor usual.

I have 6 chicks on order from them for late September, 3 BBS Orpington females, 1 BBS Orpington male, and the meal maker and homestead helper free chicks they send. I sure hope my BBS Orps are actually female! We don't have restrictions on roos where we are, but like you're going through, I'm not dealing with the fighting.

I'm really sorry you're dealing with this drama and stress!

Did you order pullets or straight run? With straight run I think they just send you random chicks without sexing them, so I can see how this could happen although it's unusual. But if you ordered pullets that's what you should have gotten. I'm so sorry this happened to you!
