MG/MS virus...... info added that may help people diagnose their birds

The vet page link says you can treat with Tetracyclene. I hate to use drugs but if my birds showed sickness I would definately treat them!

The good thing about MG is that it only lasts outside the bird for a short time (I think a few days) and it supposedly easily killed with cleaning products and good bio management.... I think that is the only good thing though.......

it can also go hand and hand with other dieases like Corzoya. Meaning instead of it being one or the other it may also be both. This seems to be a topic people don't like to talk much of because if someone admits to having a bird with it, it feels like having the plague. Many, many poultry owners have it w/o knowing.. it is something that seems to just have to be acknowledged that it is around, and dealt with the best way each situation calls for. I don't want to scare anyone.... just help people be informed about the illnesses that seem to be popping up more and more....

OMG the vaccine is 88 bucks! Now i am freaking out and wonder if i should buy it and vaccinate them with it! I have one is has signs of it. I came back from a swap and my favorite hen is snotty and weezing. It has been cold here and i wonder if she got it from this darn weather. I am really concerned for her. Should i treat her and vaccinate the rest. I am gonna loose sleep over this!

The vaccine available to us w/o a State vet is only good for preventing egg production loss and minimizing symptoms, not keeping it from developing.... It is geared more for the commercial industry that has layers and only keep birds for a short time.
