Miami Twp Ohio Chickens

When I spoke to a representative from Miami Twp. (Clermont Co.) he listened to me politely and said I could put together a proposal to try to change the zoning, however, it costs $300 just to present a zoning change and he said there is no guarantee that it will go through. I thought about seeing if TSC or another farm type store would be interested in sponsoring a proposal if I/we did the work. What do you guys think? I have inquired about backyard chickens in Madeira and Montgomery to get their rules.

Go for it. Talk to manager and provide estimates for how this will help them. For example, Montgomery is x miles, x households (whatever). If only 3% of eligible households got 6 chickens (just guessing here), then they would buy so much feed per month (btw, and adult chx eats approx 1/4lb per day per chicken). So, you would sell approximately x bags of feed per month. Basically, some type of logic to help them say yes because they will earn money and increase store traffic.

Is anyone interested in helping put together a proposal for backyard chickens in Miami Twp Ohio? I spoke to a nice man at the Miami Twp. zoning office. We had a good conversation and he said if I wanted to pursue changing the zoning laws we can meet and go over what would have to happen in order for something to go before the zoning board. He also said there are no guarantees it would be changed and there is a $300 fee to file. I would like to get copies of other communities proposals that were used to change their zoning to allow backyard chickens. If you are interested in helping with this, please let me know. If there isn't interest, then I may not pursue it. Thanks for your consideration.
Can we pick this back up? I have 2 acres in Miami township and not in an HOA. I should be able to keep chickens! How do we move forward?

find out if zoning has to be changed. might just be a change in ordinance. With the quarantining, might have more muscle bc lessens food stress and is generally a positive to have at least a few chickens.

maybe this old poster from the US government will help.

Has anyone tried asking for forgiveness rather than permission? I am tempted to just start raising some chicks and building a coop tucked away in our woods in hopes that no one notices/cares.

the usual outcome in this scenario is that at some point you will be reported. Then cited. Then given a ridiculously short period of time to get rid of your chickens (like 3 days or similar). Rules are rules and if authoritiesget involved, there isn’t usually “forgiveness” Just a timeline to correct it.

how much land/privacy do you have? Types of neighbors?

We get along swimmingly with our neighbors, but I’m a little afraid to ask, and across the street is a realtor whom I suspect would report us.
Our suburban house sits on .75 acres and backs up to 50 acres of woods which is privately owned and uninhabited.
