Mice keep stealing food!

Well, here we go again. My solution to this problem is the same as for wild bird problems. Use a treadle feeder. Look 'em up. I build my own and as long as the varmint is lighter than the chickens I'm feeding, they can't get to the feed. Look 'em up. Lots of plans around. They won't work for chicks but as soon as my pullets go from the brooder to the pullet pen they have a treadle feeder. Regards, Woody

I made myself one of those no waste bucket feeders. It was great for awhile and then the mices found them. Tried to secure the coop in every way but they still seem to some how get in. I began adding cayenne pepper into all my feed mix and havent had any mice problem since then.

How about getting a good cat who loves to hunt? We had tons of mice who were attracted to spilled feed, but now with our two kitties roaming free, we don't see any mice at all! And no, our cats never bother the chickens. They have been brought up and regularly fed treats together with the chickens, and treat them, even the baby chicks, as companions rather than prey.
