mice outsmarting me.... grrr!

Hi BYC members, I'm Jed, I have a HUGE mouse problem! I can't get rid of them!

The mice make little tunnels under and on top of the ground. At first, I didn't think it was a big deal. WRONG!!! I started closing off the tunnels and destroying them, the next day, there are BIGGER, DEEPER TUNNELS!!!

Now I'm mad! I do it over and over, everyday! I don't want to hurt my chickens or dog by putting out mouse traps or using pestisides, mouse killer, etc. What do I do?! What can I do?!

Nothing worked for me til I used rat poison. I wouldn't use anything but the kind made with bromadiolone, as the chickens are relatively safe if they decide to eat a dead mouse. Of course the poison has to be where the chickens cannot possible eat any. I bought a black plastic container intended for this; a little expensive, but safe. The brand available around here is Just One Bite. here is a good thread on the subject

oh. i dont want my chickens or dog to get hurt/sick/die.

only thing we've found to work is the cats we have around the property, they keep the mice population down. our cats are fine with the chickens but a lot of cats might not be

i have a dog. also, the owl in our neighbor's yard died.
