we feed our chickens and birds outside in their pens,,,( we dont mind the mice cleaning up the leftover corn lol) and we also have 4 "coop cats" ,, the only coop the cats dont go in is the peafowl,, around that we use them glue traps,, cheap ones,, like 25 cents a piece.,, im surprised your chickens just look at the mice,,,,mine will eat them so fast you cant believe what you just saw,,haha

If you don't have to many mouse holes id get a bag of cement fill all the holes but one and wet them down so the cement hardens then set traps around the one hole you left open peanut butter works wonders lol.

if you have mice, you probably do not have rats near by (rats will compete with mice and kick mice out).

Your chickens are most likely not afraid of teh mice because way before you noticed you had mice they'd have been there and the chickens got used to them. They're staeling your chickens feed which is simple enough....

also don't say the mice cant get into your nesting area...if your chickens can, the mice most deffiantly can.

Poison should not be an option here because we have tried that before and mice actually stoored poisoin in myrabbits cages AND in the house in my shoes. My brother actually woke up one morning with a poison pellet on his chest!!! Evil sneaky lil field mice!!! LOL!

If it was me, outside of the coop i'd put snap traps, and live traps inside the coops. LIve traps are awesome..and miec go right in thinking they can get out and ha...they can't

Then if your'e the heart type, drive a few miles down the road and letit go....or shake the live trap like crazy for about a min and the mouse will either be dead or close to it then let it out and kill it.

Just my thoughts advice etc

I have to agree with Lynn; I'd get a cat. Or at least borrow one from a neighbor.

If a cat smells the mice, he will go through the wood pile. The ones that don't get caught will leave and not come back.
I just noticed we have mice in our back yard. Again. I haven't had a cat in a couple of years, but after seeing the mice eating figs and other fruit off the trees, my daughters and I just got a kitten. With his rough and tumble play, I believe he'll be a great mouser!
At one time I had mice in our attic (since remodeling NO MICE!). Sounded like elephants stampeding up there.

I put our cat up into the attic and she didn't reappear the rest of the morning. I heard no more noise from the attic. If mice smell a cat, they'll leave.

I was gonna say, dont say that the mice cannot get into your nesting boxes, mice will scale the walls of the coop, I've seen them do it. If you have your feeders hanging, they can either jump from the ground or climb down whatever you have the feeder hanging from. Cats work the best, I have never put poison down the holes for fear the chickens would get a hold of the poisoned mice and die themselves. I have a cat that we can systematically go through an entire nest of mice and kill them one at a time till they are all dead. I scare one out, she kills and I pick up the body and save it in a jug. We went through a nest one time of about 30. After we were done, I gave her all the bodies. She was a happy girl.

I have never had a cat work so well with me till her.

This post is interesting because we have just discovered we are having a mouse problem. We put out traps and nothing yet - DH set up traps with pb and tried all kindsa things - thye are now using a different route - moving the traps and steering clear of the pb . . . they are SO smart it is driving us nuts!

We even tried the "sticky" traps and they basically ran right through them - feet marks . . . but no mice!

UGH!

I am at my wits end because they are eating my veggies!
