Michigan Chickenstock 2011

I bet you didn't think it would ever get here, yet we are now almost there. Eleven more days. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone again, meeting all the new people, and checking out all the birds that everyone is bringing. Last year I brought birds and went home without any more, this year I already know that isn't going to happen.

If you haven't put your name on the signup thread please do so. While it isn't a requirement to attend, having your name on the list just might encourage someone else to attend just so they can meet you.

Check out the potluck thread to get an idea of what others are bringing and that will help you decide what to bring.

Last year we had a drawing of donated items. If you have something you've made, or something you have that you think someone would like please bring it. I will be putting a couple of smoked chickens on the table.

We normally are there from 9 til 3. Come spend the day with people who won't look at you like you've lost your mind when you say "I raise chickens".

Take the Grand River exit off 69\\96 on the northwest edge of Lansing instead of the Saginaw exit (it is the next exit north of Saginaw). Go east to Ingersoll road, then Right (south) to Delta River Drive. Jog over to the right to Webster Road, cross the river, then turn left on Old River Trail. Piece of cake, and avoids construction on Saginaw.

So, it sounds like our little family is going to try to make it to Chickenstock. I've mostly been a bit of a lurker on here, trying to learn some things from the experts. Hopefully we get to come and meet some of you in person. We shall see if our almost 2 year old would like to co-operate for the trip out from the east side.

The days are winding down and the numbers planning to attend continues to grow. This should be the largest Chickenstock we've had.

Looking forward to meeting you.
What are the two downspout type things in your chicken run??

They are feed containers. I don't care for them though, and am going to build something better soon. They work ok, but they chicken's necks get scraped up on them, and their feathers get pretty thin because of the scraping. We got the coop, and birds as a package from friends. I'm still tweaking things to be the way I like them.

Oh I see. Makes sense. Fill at the top then eh? Thanks for the come-back.

Is there anyone near the thumb area ( I live in Brown City) that is going to Chickenstock that could possibly do a chickie transport for me? I'm unable to go again this year.

ETA: provided that I can meet up with someone, I have 3 young Cubalaya pullets that need to go to chickenstock, and a trio of young Orpingtons that need to be brought back for me. All are young birds...not adults. So a medium size carrier will work fine for them all.

I am just 6 miles below (south) the bottom edge of Saginaw Bay. How much needs to be transported? I don't have a trailer or anything. I'm only going in a van and am taking one medium sized cage for possible purchases and one small cage, plus some stuff to drop off at step-Moms house on the way home.
