Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

I always have to help my Marans, it seems. Some of them just take too long from pip to zip and get shrink wrapped, at least when I am gone all day long and monitor the humidity in the bator.

I had 8 Buff Orp, 3 Speckled Sussex, and 2 BCMs when I left this morning with one more BCM pipped.

I wasn't sure how long my white silkie had hidden the egg (that I still dont know how she got!) she was siting on but I went out to check on/feed/water everyone and found this!

Yay for all the Pips and hatches..

Happy Memorial weekend to everyone

Smart silkie momma.. love it.

I have eggs in the bator.. and the ducks eggs i put under my broody, she couldnt handle 14.. some got cold, was down to 9, decided to get the bator going, left 5 duck eggs under broody, and i think there is 4 or 5 in the bator, the ones that kinda started developing in the coop and got cold, i put them in the bator anyways, and they started developing, and i check the onces in the coop and they are developing nicely, i guess i had to many eggs under the australorp.. so will have chicks and ducks in a couple of weeks

My incubator is full of Magpie duck hatching eggs and purebred Araucana hatching eggs. It is always fun waiting for them to hatch!

Yes, it is a bit tricky with optimum humidity with both egg types. But it always seems to work out in the end.

congrats to all with chicks and developing eggs :) We have our first broody and firing up the incubator on Weds. since broody is new, we are letting her sit on four eggs, hatch and watch how she does with the chicks. She is our Delaware and serious about the sitting part so far :)

Oh my goodness what a CUTIE!!! Love crested babies. Absolutely adorable when they get their little mohawks.

It seems my broody count is up to 6 now.

Egg production is horrible, and I was HOPING to have 8-10 eggs from my pullet pen, which has my BCM roo from Wynette. But NOOOOO! One of the ameraucanas in there is broody, and the other is not a great layer. And of COURSE, my other 2 BCM hens have laid exactly 3 eggs between the both of them since I put him in there TWO AND A HALF WEEKS AGO. I was really hoping to do be done hatching by mid-June this year, but the girls are just not cooperating!

Eggs are on day 14. I am seriously considering putting each of my broodies into a different "pen" (we have a few dog crates, a dog house, and a summer-only "chick coop" that aren't being used) and getting all of the eggs out of the incubator. I don't really want to deal with chicks in my basement any more this year. In fact, I moved my 2? 3? week olds out with the older chicks we got from TSC......I think those are 6 weeks. So cute to watch the big chicks teach the little ones how to use the nipple waterer, forage around in the run, and navigate the ramp. My only issue with that is that the smaller chicks can still fit through the chain link fencing we use for the run and they like to wander into the silkie run, out into the yard, and so on.

I had a broody Partridge Orpington that only hatched one chick. It then died. We had some 3 day olds, so we gave them to her. Now she has 6 Polish babies and is a happy momma. She hasn't taken them out yet. We gave them their own food next to her. I love switching them climb all over her. I have another broody that only has one egg left. When my incubator hatches, we'll give her a few chicks.
