Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

Pics
I feel like I am late to the party, but I want to play too! My thought for this year is to see if I can't get my new blue splash silkie breeding pair from last year to raise a clutch on their own. Is there any tricks to getting a hen to brood a clutch of eggs?

Does anyone have any hatching eggs they're willing to part with? I'm looking for 2-3 dozen to put in the incubator. No preference on breeds, however I do like marans, EEs, wyandottes, leghorn, polish, silkie, barred rock, they can even be barnyard mixes! I'm located on the border of genesee and Livingston county, and am willing to meet within reasonable driving distance. :) I really want to set eggs by the 28th so I can do the Easter hatch a long, PM me if you are interested in selling me some eggs please and thank you! :)

Oh, I think the party's ongoing, it'll ebb and surge Moe....I don't think you can 'make' or even 'encourage' a broody...if she wants to sit, she'll sit....but I really don't have any first hand experience with broodies, just what I've read over and over.

naglady....good to hear you've had good luck with 3 week olds and day olds as I think I'll be picking up a few to add to what ever I get with this hatch.

moetrout your hen will go broody when she is good and ready.. cant force it. but if she is silky you can be garanteed she will be broody on you..

lost a chick today.. not sure what happen, found dead in brooder box. rest look fine. must of been something wrong with it..

didnt start the incubator yet.. but still want to.. lol

dont go and throw logic into play...... just keep the hatch going.... lol.
Could not live without logic coming first....well, it just wouldn't be logical...lol

I would feel terrible if I ended up with a bunch of chicks that didn't have a good place to live......so can't go there.

I have heard that about silies too so I am going to improve the nest box in my little coop and try to make it a lot more inviting to her.

I have EE's and one silkie hen with 2 roos, a polish and silkie roo. Not sure that the silkie roo is breeding any of the hens, but I know the polish is. If you think you might be interested in that combination let me know and I will start saving eggs for you. I am in Washtenaw county.

Anyone here interested in a coolerbator project that I have given up on? 54 quart coleman cooler with a plexiglass lid, fan, lights (for a heat source) and a hot water heater thermostat. All wired up too. It needs work to get it setup right to accurately control the temp. Others have made this same combination work so I know it can be done. I just got tired of fooling with it and went out and bought a little giant. Not looking for any money, just want to get rid of it to someone who would use it. I have also posted it for free in the classified section here.
