If you want a slightly darker brown layer check out Amber Links from Townline. Not as dark as a marans, but definitely darker than your average brown egg. I'll see if I can snap a pic comparing the 2 i have later.

it's better to start with your own eggs before shipped eggs (if you end up going that route). I wish I would have listened to the people that had told me that last year! Would have saved a lot of money!

I agree i have some Amber Links and they lay a dark egg. i would say a 4 on the scale of darkness, i mean its not a 7 by any means but they are at least as dark as some "marans" eggs i got from a guy last year. so i would agree they would give you an olive color egg. and you should be able to get them at Family farm home or TSC in the coming weeks.

...aart - yesturday was my end of hatch, i unplugged washed it out incubator and plugged back in so i can set eggs today.. i am going to sell a few of them, alot of these eggs are my friends eggs she gave me 18 eggs of mix and i put some of my eggs in again.. she has red orp, buff orp, rir,wyandotte, hens and her roo is brahma.. i wanted some orphingtons.. she only wants like 6 of her chicks and a couple of my leghorn mix. and i guess if i cant sell them i have some friend downstate that want some chicks.. or i can post them on here and see if anyone wants some.. lol....

My first, and only so far, hatch was for someone else, they left here at 3 weeks.
I'd hatch more too if they would go away like that!...or I had the room to keep them while I could find a way/place to sell them.

Gonna set a dozen on Sunday for my own replacements.....housing them will be a challenge, but I think I have a workable plan....but I am borrowing the incubator and have to return it after this hatch, probably a good thing!

I have Jubilee Orpingtons, Tolbunt Polish and Swedish Flower Hens that are purebreds. My muttlies are EE, LH, RSL, and Partridge Barthuhner hens with Partridge Barthuhner roos. I can give you a good deal! I have some Jubilee and Swede chicks I need to sell or put up on auction.

Wow, you got some seriously cool breeds. Let me think about for a bit.

Ordered 25 and was sent 29.5 didn't make the journey and two were near death when I opened the box. I tried saving the two but I think it was already too late. I have 22 total right now and they're very energetic and happy. They seem to be warm in the outdoor brooder. They're all running around the place everywhere.

I said they could sub the blue with black if need be do you think I got a mix of blues and blacks? Some definitely look blue and some look really dark

That's what I was thinking here's some better lit ones.

Most have the black feet but a couple have white toes or white tips on their toes? Not that it matters too much to me, I think it's kinda cute.

I'm pretty sure they did include some blacks
