Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

Pics
Stupid phone wont let me post pics!

I have a 3x6 double walled chick brooder that I built in my barn that way they can live outside. Soon as chicks are fluffy, out they go.
I just put a plywood wall to divide newborns and month olds.

I also dont keep all of them... I do sell off some and only retain a few for future breeders. ♡
OooooEeeee! That doesn't hold them long, huh? Hopefully you sell them soon!

Congratulations ML! Sooo, when are you setting more eggs again?

If any of you are interested in chicks, I have 20 for sale. Most are Marans mix from non-hatchery BCM roosters and a few Spitzhauben mixes if any wants lots of color. I have a few EE, BO mix and one leghorn mix. Asking $2 per chick st run. Most of the MaransX have good leg feather and came from dark laying lines.

Actually. .......

Just bought 2 dozen of mixed blue calico/millie- calico/millie- frizzled calico/millie eggs from a breeder down south. I got a lot of my nice calicos/millies from her last yr. So gonna add more! ♡

I have 17 broodies again with #s still climbing so gonna use them as they do an awesome job hatchin any bought eggs. So I am holdin off on my own stock for now!

I was wondering myself if it was too early to let my one lady hatch out some eggs? The first time I let her was in the middle of summer, she did great! That was my only experience with a broody. Have you ever had problems letting them hatch out this early in the season?

I dont however my girls are seasoned for being broodies and are totally devoted to sitting. Since 14 hens are in one laying box and its WAY over crowded, I will pull my best sitters and lock them in a broody pen.
I will never ever put my bought eggs in a bator as my luck ill kill them. Last bought eggs from this breeder... bought 21, hens hatched 18. Other lady I bought from... bought 23 and 19 hatched. My eggs are the same, way better hatch rate with girls vrs bator.
So in my case, I have no issues other then over crowding due to broody fever in my coop. :-D

Yes you do have lots of momma wannas!

I think Eddie may be fitting in now. He has been on the prowl with one of my smaller girls... Maybe he finally has a girlfriend!
