Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

Pics
this evening is the end of day 18, start of day 19. I just got the eggs moved out of the turner and everything set for lockdown. I could have sworn I heard a faint peep.....but wanted to get them closed back up..... I really wanted to try and listed to each egg. I guess in a couple days we will see.

Awesome. You're a day ahead of me. I just laid my eggs down this morning, but will continue turning them until tomorrow night. I may not bother to mark air cells, just do some spot checks to see how they look. It's crowded in there, and I'm toying with the idea of putting a basket in to raise some of them up to give more floor space for hatching.

Today is day 21! So far 2 pips and maybe 1 more that is starting to pip but not sure do to the angle. Trying to be patient, it's been over 12 hours since the 1st one pipped and not much progress since. No zipping yet. This is our 1st hatch.

just keep the humidity up and give him time and don't open it

Good luck to all 3 of you..

downrangechick - if this is your first hatch, and you caliberated your thermometer, you may want to up temp to 101-102 degrees, because its still air, and if you have your plugs out you can ad your plugs to up temp.. try not to touch your thermostat,  if you have both plugs in already you  can  put a towel over your incubator to warm it a little.. all dry hatch is, is not adding water.. less to worry about, my last hatch i didnt ad any water at all till lock down and my humidity stayed around 15%-25%.. if you humidity drops under 15 ad a couple tbsp of water to resivoir.. try not to open your incubator unless you have to.. good luck

My first couple hatches were not, then i discovered dry hatch, and i have alot better results.. even the dis in shells were full grown and most were not positioned right. i have alot better hatches this way

Thank you. It is my first hatch. I adjusted the temp with the plugs. It's holding steady so far. I wish I knew a dry hatch was just really what it's called - a dry hatch before I started. I guess I'm thinking to hard.

How many people on here have tried a dry hatch? I am trying it on a test hatch.

Exactly, great advice Matt. Sit on those hands and watch...take breaks and when you come back you will find babies in there...you have to leave and stop watching sometimes

We did a very successful one and had 13 out of 15 eggs hatch on National Poultry Day!

Good luck! We hatched only 13 eggs and our incubator is supposed to hold 40! I have NO idea how that many chicks could hatch with all those eggs in there when it was crowded with 15 in my opinion.

I always dry hatch. No water until lockdown or first pip. It's a lot easier to fish water into a reservoir with a syringe and a piece of tubing than it is to get the humidity DOWN for me. Plus is had much better hatch rates with dry hatches. (Close to 50% for shipped eggs instead of hatching 1 or 2 out of 30 or 40 eggs.)
