Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

Glad Your hatch is doing great, hope you are feeling better.

My hatch is over, I got 15 chicks out of 21 eggs..that went into lockdown. the last turkey egg didnt make it, it quit developing. i check the 6 that didnt hatch.. but all of the 15 are very healthy with no leg problems or anything like that. pretty happy with this hatch.. and they are all sold.. which is a good thing..

my dd said one of the roosters that i hatched this yr. is already trying to crow.. i am guessing its the 3
month old ones, i think i have 5 roo out of 9 chicks that i kept.. maybe more.. wasnt that good of odds.

Mindylee - those are cute chicks, glad you got a good number of them to hatch.. thats pretty good for shipped eggs..

Nicely done naglady! That's a good hatch rate!

Welcome back candy!

We ended up with 23 chicks. We set 42, tossed 2 on day 6, took out 10 at lockdown (should have taken out 11). Of the 6 that didn't hatch, 2 were really late quitters, one was cross-beaked, one was upside down in the egg, and the other 2....well i don't know what their problem was! I took 3 chicks from my broody yesterday morning, and cracked around the pip of the 4th egg since it hadn't made any progress in over 12 hours and put it back under the broody. When I went out a few hours later, it was out of the shell but my gosh darn broody had shoved it off to the side. It was cold, floppy, wouldn't open its eyes, but would open it's beak every 10 seconds or so like it was trying to chirp, but not make any sound. I warmed it up with a warm towel for about 15 minutes, and then put it in the incubator and cranked the humidity up. A few hours later you couldn't tell it had ever had a problem! Now I have the fun task of trying to decide which ones I want to keep and which ones I will put on craigslist. Ugh. I wanna keep them all!! At least until they feather in and I know what they're going to look like!

Hello, all!

I just put a batch of 15 turkey eggs in on Sunday. Includes everything from Black Mottled, Sweetgrass to Silver Dapples and some other fun colors. I hope the hatch rate is good even though I have no idea what I'll do with even 10 poults (probably craigslist lol)- they were shipped so I can only hope for the best.... I've actually had fairly good luck with shipped eggs, but. Can't count my turkeys before they're hatched! My Genesis has served me really well so far with great hatches, so, crossing my fingers.

My husband wants me to add a dozen pheasant eggs here tomorrow - that was our compromise for turkeys haha, how does that work? I love Spring, lol...

Good luck to everyone else!

welcome purpleeast - pheasant and turkey eggs will do fine if they are suppose to hatch around the same time. should work out fine

Glad glad your chickie is doing better..

Woo hoo! So how do you sell your chicks naglady? Craigslist? Word of mouth? Curious since I have so much fun hatching.....

Sold 6 chicks to friend of former co worker tonight. That leaves 16 in the basement and I have enough eggs stashed to half fill the incubator already. And I think one of my lf hens is broody. She faked being broody for a few days last year though so she's not getting anything for at least a week.

Quick question on lockdown. I have a little giant still air bator, do I plug up the holes and add moist towels or keep them open and add moist towels?

I have 4 eggs locking down tommrow, and two eggs on Sunday. Out of 13 eggs, 5 where infertile and 1 quit at day 10 or so.
