Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Craig's list! We were trying to sell a boat and had call after call wanting to trade everything under the sun for it. And there was the guy that showed up and said - "I've come to the conclusion that I will give you $250 for the boat". Unfortunately for him we were asking $375 - firm, which was make clear to him in advance. After that, in a fit of ire, I raised the price to $450 and we sold it the next week for $375. I am not cut out for bargaining, that's for sure.

People sure can be nutty.. thats pretty bad.. coming to your house with a lowball offer.. that they decided on.. lol
awww bummer.........

Bentominion, I think I would have to agree with others........ a "friend" you cannot trust to help you, or to honor her commitments to pay her way, is just taking advantage of you. You sure she's not feeding your DH a bunch of bunk about rats so she doesn't have to mess with the birds in the morning? Besides..... if you do have rats, you had a rat problem before you got birds. Most rats will kill and haul their food to a cache pile for later. (that's what my pet rats did, little buggers!) the others will eat on site... and just heads or pieces... More than likely, it's coon, skunk, possum. weasel or dog. Good luck with you DH convincing him to keep your birds. If you need to re-home your quail, please PM me. But I hope you can keep them - don't give up. I found if I gave in to everything my DH didn't like, the world would only revolve around him and what he liked...... Everyone is entitled to have their own hobby to bring them pleasure, it's not supposed to be one sided. (or kitty might go on an extended vacation).
So this pallet I'm tearing apart for my milk stand............. I couldn't believe some of the pieces were tiger striped oak!
I had barred rocks years ago.......can't say as they were my favorites.
Are peacocks edible?
I have 6 to get rid of. I've lowered my price on Craigslist to $400 for all..... I'd be happy to lower it more for someone on here! PM me if you're interested! I had two people interested on craigs list..... one went "poof" when I said this was a cash sale..... the other, all talk as well. I hate selling on CL.
yes peacock is edible.. actually considered exotic food.. i have never ate it, but read its very tasty..

doesnt sound like barred rocks play nice with others. i guess i am glad my chicks arent barred rock after all..

about your peacocks is there anything you can barter for with them.. if noone wants to pay cash..

Bento, a friend is someone who lifts you up and stands by you. This person does not fit that description. Maybe there would be less tension in your home if you kicked her OUT. So sorry to hear about your birds.

I know. Except SO won't. We have had a discussion about it since she was first causing issues with my autistic son. She was being sarcastic and I kept talking to her about it and she would not stop. 2 months later SO stepped in and she stopped. There have been several other things like that. He refuses to do that or even give her a deadline. I told him before baby is born and he says she is to much help. Yep, she helps, but you know what, it is a lot of stress on me. She cannot afford to live on her own unless rent is under $300 due to her getting her self into situations. That and a crappy paying job. But she is not looking for better. *sighs*

Anyway, I may have won the chicken war.

All the chickens are there still. YEAH! Although I lost a quail chick this morning. :-(

Good Morning!! Cloudy, but not too bad. Suppose to rain later ;(

I have the sweetest barred rock.. She follows me around and tells me about her day. I can pick her up and cuddle. The others I had were nice birds, also. I don't see them being mean to others.

I have to babysit this weekend in Lansing, so won't be able to go to fowl fest. Too bad, it's suppose to be a nice week end. At least the kids can go out and play!
Enjoy the day

Mom, we need to talk. Found this pic here

Bentominion, Well... Heres what I'd do... get rid of the friend first... Second, get a coated chicken wire, and line your whole coop floor with it around the whole perimeter. I would not have a problem driving to your place to help you with the security problem on your coop/shed/whatever. If you have to get rid of them for sure, I am not so much interested in the quail, but I wouldn't have a problem taking the other chickens. I have enough wood from the wood I just picked up for free to build 2 coops.

I am going to guess that you've either a weasel that got in or a raccoon. I am also going to guess it's going to be back tonight or tomorrow. Sorry for your losses. Those types are always a hard one to deal with.

A weasel or raccoon was my guesses too. Maybe opossum, but in my experience with them, they were more destructive.

lol I like your idea. That is actually what I was thinking kinda. I have some coated hardware cloth and it is just enough to do the flooring. I thought I would attach it and put some dirt over top of it to cover it a bit. Then the bedding and so on. I talked a cousin into watching my younger 2 while the older 2 are in school (half days) so I can get that done.

Before you get started.......... have you checked your township ordinances to see if you are allowed to have them?   Some people can win the battle over keeping birds, others haven't been so lucky, even though MRTF laws are present, some people in government, have their heads up their proverbial backsides when it comes to chickens.

Haha trying to do this from my phone. I can have chickens but I have to build the coop so many feet from the property line. I guess I should check again. I do know someone down the road from me has chickens and I am sure they only have 2 1/2 to 5 acres and I have 12 1/2 so should be ok.

So this pallet I'm tearing apart for my milk stand............. I couldn't believe some of the pieces were tiger striped oak!
I love finding pallets like that. I reclaim them often enough that I bought a metal detector for the nails and staples and a planer to really highlight those beautiful grains. I built a bat house for my MIL out of striped oak from a pallet.

Having a not great morning. My incubator quit holding temperature, and I had to move everything over to a different one that was supposed to be holding NEXT WEEK'S eggs. I float tested everything since I didn't have a lot of room in there, and ended up pulling 11 eggs out, and moving 5 over to the 2nd incubator. The bad news? 6 black copper marans dead in the shell. Half of them were pipped into the aircell. I Am SOOO BUMMED! I still have 4 eggs that will hopefully hatch from the BCMs, and 2 more EE mixes. 3 chicks in the brooder right now. Really hoping I get a few more!!

I have BLRWs due next week, and 5 more mutt eggs.

I think I'm going to take a carload of stuff to Goodwill to get out of the house so I don't obsess over the chicks hatching or not hatching all day.
