Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I find this list funny. Should just say "whatever animals we don't want you to have are exotic". Scientifically speaking, exotic would be any animals that aren't native to the area, so pretty much any pet.

and those who are native, you have to have a DNR permit for! LOL!

Are there any certified NPIP testers from Kent County on here, or anyone in Kent County that would recommend a particular tester? Mad I missed taking the class in March. I got a list, but don't know which one to pick.

Bento... I was going to say my offer to help you still stood if you needed it, but sounds like you have it under control.

If there is one thing that I have learned having chickens, they are ultimately my responsibility. I may have my mother here, you'd think she could collect eggs, and there is also a "man" here, but they aren't "his" thing. SO, all care, building, etc is my job. It doesn't matter if I have a migraine, my knees are out of joint, my hips and lower back are having an alignment related flare up making walking difficult. I know this. I expect this. I do not ask for help on it, nor will I. I buck up and do the job that I've brought on myself and take their care seriously. No relying on others. I have a wonderful set of neighbors who would take care of them for me if I were to go on vacation though.

If part of the rent package with your SO friend is to help you with the birds, drop that part of the agreement. You're on a losing end with that one. Obviously from what has just occurred. I think you are better off dealing with them yourself. Not all people are cut out for the raising or care of livestock, and I do not think I would trust this "friend" around my animals.

OH WAIT.......Who's friend is this? Your DH's? Having an autistic child and another child on the way, is tough enough without dealing with a "friend" like that as well. If his friend can't find a better paying job, could it be that someone is enabling her not to have to look for anything better? Who is she helping? If my DH ever defended another woman, friend or not, over what goes on in our house hold or she did not respect me enough to knock it the H*** off in regards to my kids, he'd be needing to make a few choices!! Haaaaaaawwhh...... Sorry, getting off my straw bale now........ [rule]tmkuroda... it's all about money! :barnie
Here, here! I, for one, would be livid. I'm more than willing to help out a friend, but that generosity ends when they walk all over you. We actually rent our place and part of the rent is in caring for the landlord's horse, donkey and goats that are out here. I have no problem doing that, especially since they allow us to have pretty much any critters we like out here, and I have to go out to care for my animals anyway so throwing an extra bale of hay or filling an extra bucket is no skin off my nose. That being said, not everyone is trustworthy with animals and your so-called "friend" seems to be lacking in that department. Better just do the chores yourself and figure out something else for her to do to pay rent.

Soooooooo,,,, it should be nice Saturday!! We're digging/driving more fence posts and then going to see my friend who lost her DH recently (my old teacher)..I hope to be relieved of the Peas on Saturday!

Having a not great morning. My incubator quit holding temperature, and I had to move everything over to a different one that was supposed to be holding NEXT WEEK'S eggs. I float tested everything since I didn't have a lot of room in there, and ended up pulling 11 eggs out, and moving 5 over to the 2nd incubator. The bad news? 6 black copper marans dead in the shell. Half of them were pipped into the aircell. I Am SOOO BUMMED! I still have 4 eggs that will hopefully hatch from the BCMs, and 2 more EE mixes. 3 chicks in the brooder right now. Really hoping I get a few more!!

I have BLRWs due next week, and 5 more mutt eggs.

I think I'm going to take a carload of stuff to Goodwill to get out of the house so I don't obsess over the chicks hatching or not hatching all day.
Hi Glad, can you explain "pipped into the aircell" and "float tested", I am new to this hatching thing and need to learn.

Thanks Kimmie

Thats for sure not everyone will take care of your animals like they need to be cared for, sad but true. My son sometimes makes me wonder. I am out there in a blizzard or whatever a little spinkle oh "it's raining' whatever I will do it myself dinner will have to wait while I do everything so you don't get a drop of water on you, you have got to be kidding!
