Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

HI there! I'll be driving through Oscoda on my way to east Tawas tomorrow. That's where my vet is. Ziggy needs shots Luna is limping, and they both need their heart worm check. I shall wave on the way by.

Hi. First post here, but I'm looking for some hens. I'd prefer to avoid waiting a long time for egg production, so I don't want baby chicks. Plymoth rock, or Rhode island reds would be nice, but anything that lays good edible eggs and does ok with MI weather is ok. I'm putting the coop together today, so I'm not sure how big its going to be yet, but I'd like somewhere between 5 and 10 hens. I can get more specific about that in a few hours.

Oh and I'm in Riverdale MI(middle of MI, by alma/mt pleasant). So the closer to me the better, but I can drive to get them.

I've changed my profile pic, whatcha think? He's my dominant roo Blue Andalusian. The naughty boy blind sided me last week and got his spur right through my pant leg, above my boots and left a 1.5" cut. I chased him around and he hasn't done it since. He's lucky he's my only blue and destined to be bred rather than eaten.... this year.
Hi swamp, nice to hear from you again, love your avatar!!!very handsome bird, don't let him bully you. Are you coming to CS in June?

I'm a little far for you, but some one may have some, also check Craigs list... hope you can come down for chicken stock in June. it is held in Lansing. lots of fun and chickens for sale.
Make sure you make a Big coop you always want more then you think

Love the silkies, should win some ribbons with those, They are VERY PRETTY

Alma MI chicken show this sat, the 4th, who is going?

This will be my first time, going to pick up some more Icelandics and some Delawares.

And spending a lot of time looking at other breeds.

Its a 3hr drive but I expect that its going to be well worth it.

Re introducing young chickens to the flock, I would never even try before they were 3-4 mos old and then only if they had lots of places to hide. Six mos would be even better, in a large space.
I will be there along with my BFF RIRJen.

I'll be there and so will Theron :)

Here's a group shot of most of the silkies that are going with us this weekend for the show!

Another shot of our white pullet, she was talking up a storm being out in the grass instead of in the show cooping!

Our black rooster named Frank.
You are definitely going to win something. Nice looking group!! I especially love the splash girl.

Thanks! I'm really excited to see how we do, I've been working on our birds since last spring show and we did pretty well then. Brought in some new birds from North Carolina when we went to see some family. :) Cause you know, no 16hr trip is complete without the back end of your van being filled with hatching eggs and live birds! LOL
I'm hatching like crazy right now and hope to have a batch to bring to chicken stock. My speckled sussex are finally laying really good and fertility rate has improved on them so I might have a handful of those as well.
I am excited for both of us. I will DEFINITELY be bringing the camera. We need to get some pictures together with our winning birds.

I know I posted this before, but thought I would put it out there again with the new Michiganders. Does anyone here in Michigan have dark red/mahogany Rhode Island Reds? Color is the most important thing for me. I'd love some hatching eggs if you do. Maybe we could meet at Chicken Swap. Please PM me.

Tomorrow is my sentencing date for the CRIMINAL offense of keeping chickens.
Tomorrow may also be the last day that I can volunteer as a docent for educating kids about Nature. Convicted criminals are not allowed to teach children.
