Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Howdy everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any Cream Legbars here in MI. I tried hatching out some shipped eggs but they failed to hatch so I am looking for a closer source of stock.

Hi and welcome to BYC and the Michigan thread :D

There are 3 of us that I know of that have CL's, mine are quite young and while laying very nice blue eggs they are still on the small side.

2 of my 6 bantam mottled cochin eggs are pipped!

I personally haven't had to deal with it yet so don't know much more than this.

I HAVE had hens sound awful when they got too excited at treat time and literally inhaled their food on accident, it's the reason i have to use pellets strictly and not crumble; and even that don't help some days. :) If that's the cause it gets better in a couple days.

GAPEWORM - to check to be sure they have it, hold them in your lap, and take a Q-tip - open their mouth, then gently and slowly push the q-tip back into the back of their mouth, whle rotating it. Do the same when bringing it back out. If they have gapes, you'll see them on the q-tip (they are very small/thin and appear to have TWO heads).

Did i tell ya'll my hatch? 13 phoenix, 2 white yokohamas, 1 WC blue polish, and 1 white Japanese bantam. Tomorrow DM is sending another package of eggs. Trying a different packing method to see if there is a better hatch rate. I had one bird that zipped and lost his egg cap, and died, that was a jap bantam, and one that pipped, and died with his beak sticking out, also a jap bantam. Bummer. Anyway, 17 live out of 36. Only I have 16 because one commited suicide. Drowned in the tiny chick waterer... Never have had that happen before.

Sorry if I have repeated myself, but I couldn't remember if I had posted it on this thread or not.

Another day is commencing and this antediluvian member of this select gathering of poultry people is once again counted among the living. Both the coffee and my pulse are hot and strong, I've finished two crossword puzzles and a word search so my mind appears to be working reasonably well. I assume that I am ready to meet what ever the day has in store for me.

If the rain holds off I intend to work on the garden fencing and once that is completed I will start prepping the soil for planting. I need to get that completed so that I can get the garden planted and then move on to the more important project of getting my boat rigged out for river fishing.

I read about gapeworms but in the book it said the bird will yawn and outstretched its neck frequently so I dismissed it. It could be a type of other worm though. Their favorite spot to hang out is the edge of the pond/swampy area.

Good Morning! It's been a long week of taking the ceramic floor up and now the cement board. The living area was easy enough to get up. DH forgot he glued the cement board down, but it was easy to scrap up the glue. For some reason, DH changed glue on the other half of the floor and man it's like super glue! Couldn't even get all the cement board up. Layers are left behind. What a mess! And, oh, the dust that's every where on everything! Can't contain it since it's a big huge open room. The house will have to be cleaned from top to bottom when we are done getting the glue up.
I've enjoyed all the chick pics. Once in awhile I get to take a break and catch up on here.
Icky day again. Feels so cold after the over 80 degrees we've had.
Have two grand daughter that are having birthday parties today in Lansing, so we get a day off from the labor and dust. Hope you enjoy the day..
