Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Starting to side the garage and the starter strip is giving me fits. Over a 24 length, the original cedar siding is more than 1 1/2 inches out of level.
It's going to make getting started kind of a PITA. Good thing I know how to cheat.
So after many measurements, plumb checks and checking to see if the law of gravity was repealed, I find that my 1952 garage wasn't built square to begin with. More like a trapezoid on the side I'm trying to side. The other side is even worse and the entire structure has matchboxed about 4 1/2 inches. However, one corner is perfectly plumb on both immediate faces.

The Engineer in me is appalled, but the giddy artist part is laughing about the mix of colours and sizes that are going up.

Looking for Frizzled Bantams. Does anyone know where I might find some frizzled Cochins, Polish, or Sizzles in Michigan. I am in Grand Rapids (hence the name - GrandRapidsGirl) but would travel to buy a pullet or two. I am also interested in Sebrights, Brabanters, Barevelders, Spitzhaubens, or those little Sicilian Buttercups.

Thanks so much!

I am new to chickens and haven't found a good place to look for breeders.

So I'll admit that the garage paint is in sad shape. The ordinance officer wanted me to power-wash and paint over. Nevermind that the paint is likely lead-based and requires special permits for remediation and disposal and is an environmental contaminant.

The blue chalk line is based off the only plumb corner of the garage. It is completely level.

Obviously, going level is not an option for a structure that has settled over 50 plus years. Can you see how the level siding falls away from the existing cedar siding?

After some serious measuring, ciphering and a little cheating. I came up with a template to set how the courses (rows) should be nailed up. From this one-point perspective, the lines seem tapered. But I managed to keep the runs mostly level with the window. My laser level says that I'm only off by 5/8 inch over the 24 foot length. I'm happy with that.
I stopped at this point because I need a ladder or scaffold to go higher. That is for tomorrow.

The lines and colours seem to bend and warp. If you stare at the wall for a few minutes, it seems to move. I'm sure that it will mess with an OCD mind.
