Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Another good day is underway and the coffee is tasting mighty fine this morning. I'm sitting here waiting for time to pass so that I can call on an outboard motor I'm interested in. The motor that is on the boat I bought is insufficient to get it up on plane so I need a larger one. This one is in Missouri but the price is right so hopefully I can work something out.

Precious Kitty stopped by for coffee this morning. Always nice to visit with chicken folks.

A few thoughts about egg production droppage (is that a word?) Often people simply ask "why" and provide no other details. It would be helpful to know more detail.

How old are the hens?
What breed are they?
Are they moulting or about to or just finished?
Food sources? Fresh water everyday? Oyster shell available?
Free range? Run kept? Hidden nest maybe?
Environmental conditions (too rainy, too dry, too hot)?
Did you have lights in the coop during the winter?
Egg predators in the coop?
etc.

The more details that one can provide can help the experienced people better suggest an answer to the question/problem.

Hi BYC group! I'm looking for as much help/advice as possible. We purchased 59acres of land (and home) up in Baldwin, MI back in May. We knew it was against local ordinance to own farm animals, but were told that ordinances were only enforced if there was a complaint, and no one would likely complain. Unfortunately we live next door to a twp board member who invited himself over and saw our chickens. We received notice today we are in violation of ordinance.
PLEASE any advice is much appreciated! We are famiar with RTFA but don't know where to start getting the ball rolling. We know we have the right to farm, and we are not backing down. We WILL make a case of this if need be. Hopefully we will pave the way for others here too.

I would PM RaZ. He's been fighting the sheriff for awhile now. He may have advice for you. Good Luck! You'd think with 59 acres you could have a few chickens for gosh sake!!

PM RAZ already, waiting impatiently for a reply;-) on this beautiful Saturday he likely is not inside.
This "violation" is getting me all stressed out!
Thanks for the advice! RAZ should be much help. We all know he is probably the most educated on the subject...

Just to clarify, my fight has not been with the sheriff. It has been with the local ordinance officer.

I'm not nearly an expert but I have done endless research on the matter. I lost my case as did another guy here in Garden City. Those losses showed that if a judge chooses to ignore state law and has already predetermined that you are guilty, then you will be found guilty and have to take your case to a higher court.

I love all the pictures of broodies and chicks!

If anyone is near Opa, he has some STUNNING bantam Orps. I wanted to get them, but the car is acting up. I'll be glad when I get a new one. :) Just got my first paycheck with the new job. So, not too much longer.
