Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

tests,
I agree with Nova, You can do this, you can cut a hole in 1 side for the poop door, buy an automatic door and opener for $ 2 or $300, I found a window with frame in a dumpster at a window place, ask any place they replace windows, I cut a window in the side of my coop for more light and air, covered the opening with hardware cloth and framed it in with some scrap 2x1 , chickens don't mind that I didn't get it real straight and from a distince it looks fine. I bought some gagets from the hardware store that snap open and closed and I snap a piece of plexy glass over the opening in winter,
nest boxes can be plastic tubs or dish pans screwed to the wall, wood boxes are easy to make if you don't have a saw and can't borrow on, a lot of lumber yards will cut wood for you for a small charge

YOU CAN DO THIS !!!

were do you live? maybe some one close by will come over and help, a coop renovation party!!

Tap, dentists say that if you ignore your teeth they will go away.

SFH eggs should be arriving any day - between my broody and a friend's megabroody Sumatra they should all be in a hen's care.

wish I lived closer, would love to see your birds

I was out in the pasture last night taking some pictures before the girls went to bed. Here's my wheaten marans pullets, just about at POL but still waiting for those chocolate eggs.

And Souffle reaching down from the fence to snatch a single queen anne's lace petal off the sheep's back as they passed. Kinda funny.
She's a strange bird.

tsete - post a bunch of photos of your building... we may be able to tell you what you'll need to fix it up and give some pointers how you could do it yourself. There are several builders and handy people on here... also if you could post what city you're in, maybe you're close to someone on here who could help you. Seriously, being female doesn't mean you can't be handy, I don't care how old or young you are!
Welcome to the new folks... This tends to be a fast thread, don't give up if your questions get missed..
I think it's hard to re-home birds on here cause we already all have so many. But you never know what anyone would want at any time. I have a crap load of uggos that will be needing new homes soon....they aren't quite as "uggo" as one would think!

I hope the cutest two are hens, I'd like to keep them!

If they are roos, They'll need re-homed or they'll be headed to freezer camp. I have a bunch of solid black ones like the one on the left as well.

LOL, Sam.. if salt intake doesn't help, try eating a daily banana - you may be low in potassium.. and keep that H2O intake up! I had an experience a while back where I felt quite out of sorts, I felt like a huge "conflict of interest"! DH got a good laugh out of that one. So I know what you're feeling Sam. Glad your elbow is doing better.

Good morning, everyone. My Belgian d'uccles and the large birds get along fine together. The little roosters stick with their bantam hens, and the big roosters are with the big hens. I haven't had any crossbreeding at all; the size differential seems to be enough. I havea group of millies hatched thios summer, raised by broodies, needing new homes. Anyone interested? Mary

those are great pics. i've been trying to get photos of my birds with the camera on my phone and have pretty much given up on that. i finally took my actually camera outside yesterday, and wow. what a difference.

Western Fox Snakes, also known as Pine snakes, are a very welcome visitor here. They are rodent eaters! This one was very tolerant of getting handled and getting passed around to some visitors at the house. Didn't even musk! A very beautiful animal. I especially love their checkerboard bellies.

He or she is back in the field to snarf on mice.

very pretty snake. i love snakes. earlier this summer i found a little Brown snake in my garden. i haven't seen any since in my yard, but they are almost always welcome (as long as they stay outside where they belong)
