For culling chickens, i lay paper down, put a grocery store plastic bag in a pan.. then i lay chicken sideways on paper, stand on both the legs with one of my feet, and stand on both wings with the other. hold the head with one hand, slit the juggler just under the cheekbone with a boxcutter, and makesure the head is over the pan, and dead is done in less then a minute, will just fall asleep, hole the body when spasms, then if i am not butchering it, i wrap the chicken in the paper and put in bag, tie it up and put in garbage.
done in matter of minutes.. hope this helps..
i know the first time i tried to cull it was a disaster, now its done quick and done humanely..

Mine was awful. Tried to snap neck but I swear she just looked at me like thanks for the adjustment and walked off. Hubby had to do it for me when he got home. The only time I've even attempted to kill something is when a ground hog was trying to get in with my hens. I bludgeoned him as best I could ONLY because I didn't have time to go inside and grab the .22. He was fine. Ran away and haven't seen him since. So maybe I whacked him good enough to scare him off for good...

You put your pet chicken in the garbage??

I bury all mine that have died.

Good Morning! Looks like a pretty day.

Will be camping in Holland. Love that area.

I was thinking of the ant and grasshopper fable yesterday as I was stacking firewood. I was getting ready to fire up the log splitter but noticed that it was almost 8:00 pm. Today will be just fine for splitting more wood.

I am glad you like it. It's DH's favorite. I don't remember how long it took to set. It is not as thick as regular jam but neither is it runny.

I am looking forward to getting some apples. When driving around I see apple trees that are along the side of the road with apples dropping on the ground. I think to myself if the owner would mind if I picked any. I may have to wait though, till I get back from my vacation. Yesterday I was happy to be able to get some canning tomatoes at the local produce stand. I was worried that I would not be able to get any this year.

Zombie chicken. That story is going to haunt me for the rest of my life.

I'll admit to trying to whack one over the head once, before putting into the cone but it just looked at me as if to say "excuse me but THAT HURT!" So I gave up and put it in the cone.

Finally got a new camera. Nothing fancy but the important thing is that it's a Sony because they fit my old Konica Minolta lenses. So it's the best of the entry level Sony DSLR's, A65. I was impressed with its low light capabilities. Couldn't have taken a photo like these with my old camera in the cave that is our barn, not without a lot of graininess. I sacrifice a bit of depth of field but I'm not complaining. The camera makes it easy to keep that focus where you want it. I'm whole again.
