Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I agree with Jake. Working with be can be pretty easy. Calm and steady movements work with so many critters.
Bees are getting more difficult to find each year. I had no bees this year and it seems doubtful for next year.

Thanks for the incubator answers. I was thinking that the eggs get jostled by a hen turning them and sitting back down on them, so I wasn't TOO concerned.

The peaches I got were in Kent County from a little roadside market (the people live there, and have their own little onsite store). It's on Kalamazoo Ave, by I think 92nd St 'ish? For the likes of me I cannot remember their name! They also had some other veggies for sale, and inside the store they sold gift items, maple syrup, and assorted other things. If I had the time, I would have shopped around a little more, but I have 3 kids and never any extra time.

The honey looks great!

This is one of my keeper Araucana chicks, too. I haven't had many keeper chicks this year, I'm being pretty choosey. It is black, double tufted, and rumpless!

it looks like a baby penguin. i keep seeing the pic in that little "recent images" thing to the right and i have to look again to realize that it isn't. it is really cute

Bees and horses; no problems that I ever saw! A few years ago, when we had nine (!!!) horses, four steers, and many chickens, we also had a beekeeper who had 125 hives on our farm next to one of our five acre pastures. No issues at all, and I was only stuyyng once, when I accidentley grabbed a worker bee. This year we have six hives next to a pasture, again with no problems. Ground wasps, on the other hand, are a different story! Mary

Thanks! I have a friend who has bees who said that I can use their extractor and some of their equipment until I get set up on my own. Now I just have to get the boxes, etc. And a beekeepers suit (I HATE getting stung).

Before I drive an hour to go look at FBC Marans hens, is there anyone around the Swartz Creek/Flint Township selling Marans hens that are laying or very close to laying? I would rather get a few from someone on this forum that I 'know', than from a stranger. I'm not looking for show quality, just big, dark eggs and nice personalities.

If anyone has beekeeping equipment - hives, suits, smoker, etc. - I'm thinking about putting my BioCube saltwater aquarium up for trade. Value with what's in it (corals, no fish) is just over $350. I have extra salt and stuff that will go with it

*edited for poor sentence construction, lol.

Got some chicks today. 5 easter eggers, not sure which are male or female but have a few I'm pretty sure on. My problem is this little one just kinda sits there with her eyes closed most of the time, she tries to hide under anothers wing, and many times she ends up getting trampled or knocked over and just lays there. this is my first time having chicks and i have NO experience. I gave her some electrolite water but not sure what else to do. Any ideas?

has she eaten or drank anything? if she is eating and drinking, she might just needs some time to adjust to the new surroundings. you might want to try and tempt her to eat with some treats of some form too.

Feel her crop. (round part on left of chest that should have food in it) Is it decently full? Feel too "watery"? (Compared to the other ones)

At any rate she'll need extra loves and attention for a bit. Feed and water her away from the others as many times through the day as you can to see if that helps. If she won't eat try putting the gentlest flock-mate she has with her to inspire her. If that fails find some treat that she'll eat, bad eating is better than no eating. I really like the manna-pro line. They make a chick vitamin that comes in a yellow bottle that is great, would give her vitamins too in the event she isn't eating.

Best of luck to you, she looks a lot like my girls when they were little

Got her to drink a little but she won't eat. Think its possible she has a broken neck or something. Her head keeps going at weird angles and now she barely seems to stand well. Sucks to have chickens for a day and already had to tell kids that I think she will die :-(
