Just a tip for you guys out there... I was on the roof of the new coop, nailing rafters into place when the old neighbor guy came over and said "Tell your husband I have a nail gun if he wants to borrow it." Yeah. Don't say that to a woman who has a hammer in her hands. Just don't.

Exactly right! I'm in the middle of building a new Fort Knox like run and so many people can't believe that I am doing this all by myself. Because 1, I am a woman and 2 I am not a spring chicken ( my unoffocial age is 29 but my family and friends never believe and Social Security will be coming sooner than later! :woot :lau

that could have been somewhat a complement like maybe the DH might do the work if it was easier.

Well I don't have a H. Me and my girls put up are 6 foot privacy fence(not pre-made panels) When we were done a neighbor guy said he can paint. Thought he was offering a helping hand. Catch paint it for 300 bucks. Why in the world would I pay someone after we did all the hard work.

coolest thing,, about 30 vultures cercaling our yard off and on all day, getting ready to fly south, ....chickens don't think it is so cool, they have spent most of the day in hiding

you don't know what fun is until you've pulled the same 104 stitch row out of the hat you're knitting 4x before you get the pattern right.

(if it doesn't fit DS when it's all done I think I might cry)

The GOOD news on that is that I think I finally have it [fairisle knitting] figured out and hopefully i'll be able to start and finish the hat I decided to knit for my niece BEFORE her birthday instead of after.

I'm getting 4 eggs per day out of almost 20 hens, but most of them are in full-on molt. I think my black australorp is going to have bare patches soon. Poor girl looks absolutely pathetic right now.

winter run question?? what do you put on the ground in your covered winter run? leaves, straw, wood shavings? my run is dirt but I like to through something else in there once I put the cover on as they do not like to go in the snow I have used leaves and hey, leaves had less pack down by spring  (I think) thought this yr I may use a combo of all three, gettig the fine wood shavings trom TSC

FYI.....I have discovered feed prices can vary as much as $1 a bag at different TSC's     Cedar Springs is a dollar cheaper then Lowell

I bag up as many leaves as I can. I fill the runs with leaves, and add bags randomly until I am out... THEN.. they are SOL until spring. Last year, not enough bags, this year, I will do double.

Hey, maybe it was a bargain deal for him... Never now... LOL

ANYWAY totally off chicken subject, but some might find it of interest if you haven't started your shopping yet...

Well, I went and did some checking on what my mandatory health care costs will be. I am 117% above poverty. My health care plan will cost $1000 a month of which $413 will be subsidized, leaving me to pay $587 a month. So roughly $146 a week. Note... Being self employed, I might have $400 a week come in, but I have roughly $120 go out just in job expenses. On occassion, more than that. When asking for my income they asked for before expenses and taxes. Hmmm... So... I make $1600 - $480 Which goes back into work, so, $1120-a month since having lost pay from downsizing and cost cutting measures, I am barely making ends meet. Now another near $600 is going to go out for my families health care. This will leave me $500 and change to pay bills, house payment and buy groceries.

I think I will take the fine for a few years until I am able to find higher paying employment... OH WAIT! I will lose that to childcare, a cost I do not have currently wth my job. I raise my kids, not some one else.

I guess I will also be putting in larger food plot than was planning come spring.

This is such a great law of the land.
