Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

This morning I fixed breakfast for my friend and my mother and then headed out for an appointment with an infectious disease doctor. He ordered a treatment regime that required I have an IV port installed. A catheter was installed in vein in my arm that extends to within a inch of my heart. Now twice a day for the next two weeks I have to give myself an intravenous infusion of antibiotic that takes 90 minutes. The whole procedure will take about 2 hours twice a day. Just what I wanted to be doing with my time but it is better than planning a black limo trip.

While I was gone David took our friend back to get his medicines and a change of clothing. While they were there the power was restored but he told David that Hope was already planning on fixing schweine schitzel for supper so he had better go back to my house. I sure am glad that he feels comfortable with being a part of our family. It could be our company that he enjoys but I guess it could be the cooking.

Congrats Chick! And Congrats to all the hunters! I don't hunt, but I encourage them to keep the deer numbers down. They go through and mess up my electric fence all the time!
Praying for you Opa!

Took this picture at work this morning at 7:30 as I was moving cows off the pasture to the barn to be milked at my new job. Finally nice to see the moon and sun today!! God is good!

Opa... Are you on vancomycin? My dad had the arm port as well. Worked very well for him. Let the Dr know ASAP if you feel off. Had another friend that ended up being allergic to it. She ended up in a coma. She didn't think there was a problem even though she was feeling very weird and fuzzy... Are you having a nurse in to admin?

Reading your story about your neighbor friend, I am remind of the lyrics, Where have all the cowboys gone, and I think, I know where one is, and its really too bad that there are not more of them like you in my age bracket...

Any one notice how bright Venus has been. My boy thought it was a star or the space station. He was amazed that Venus shone so bright.

Speaking of chickens, I haven't told a chicken related story for a bit.... Well I have a red shouldered yoke. He's a youngster who has just started to be roosterly. He has a hankering for Loralie the faverolles hen who has a hankering for Mr.Ed the BBR phoenix roo. Anyway... I was letting the birds out this AM and as I was walking back to the front, wading through the feathered masses, he, the yoke, gets on Loralie does the roosterly duty, completes the transaction, falls off of her head first. OMG, I about peed myself right there I was laughing so hard. She just stood up, shook herself, and walked away. He took a second or three longer to get back on his feet, and shook himself straight, then wandered off into the bush. Lol.Man, do I wish I had that on video...

Morning has come once again which means that I once again am able to face what ever comes my way. So many people must face some much adversity that my problems seem trivial. The belief that any morning with a pulse is a good one has never seemed more appropriate.

Egg production is still well below what it should be given the size of my flock so a serious reduction in size is definitely coming in the very near future. My son David has agreed to act as executioner so hopefully the culling will begin soon. One should never become so callus that it is easy to put down birds, however, to become emotionally attached to a bird is never a good idea. Once a flock reaches a point that the return is far less that the expense it must be reduced in size. It is never easy to dispatch a beautiful bird but it must be done and fortunately I can donate the carcasses to the raptor rehabilitation program.

I just noticed that last night and asked the family if there was some planet close to us and nobody knew. I'm glad you mentioned, i knew it wasn't just a normal star. My DH just saw a pic of a phoenix roo yesterday and loved it. Where is a good place to get a roo like that and how is their disposition? I have an RIR roo and 8 hens, would a new roo need a new flock of hens?

Farmerboy- beautiful pic!!

It usually isn't a good idea to have two roosters together. They are predisposed by nature to be combative towards each other. Since nature's mantra is "only the strong survive" you can almost guarantee a bloody outcome.

Also unless you want your birds to be a mix of different breeds you will want to have hens of the same breed as your rooster.

As usual, Opa, glad for you uplifting morning words; particularly since I am feeling rather "whiny" today....
Don't feel well, wanted to sleep in cuz I have briefings with "The Building" (aka, that five sided monstrosity in DC) from 0800-1700..but was still at work at 0550...gonna be a long day as I probably won't get home til 1900 or so...
Ok, sorry...done whining now..
Have a great day everyone..mine was brightened as someone at work brought me a breakfast sandwich cuz he knew I was gonna have a LONG day!!

Oh..on a chicken note, my egg production is probably down about 50% in the last week or so...
