Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I wonder what it is about computers that cause them to send my most eloquent posts off into cyberspace? Then when I try to remember just what I had written that was so profound my mind is so stunned by the lost post it is unable to reconstruct it. I think my computer is deliberately making sure that I appear stupid.

I will just forgo doing much of anything until this line is removed. He only dispatched the obvious ones and there are another 5 that should go as well. However, I am grateful for his efforts. I sure hate the fact that I must allow others to do things that I ordinarily do but to no allow them to help and try to do it myself would be
good choice!
and allowing others to help is a blessing for them and makes them feel good, always allow others the joy of helping

This morning is the first truly cold day of the season. The temperature is below freezing so I guess there is no denying that winter is here. I'm glad that David got the heater under the waterer yesterday or the birds would have been getting pretty thirsty before someone could water them later in the day. My having to avoid the chickens sure is causing some difficulties.

I've already given myself 8 infusions and being tethered to an IV pole for two hours twice a day sure is aggravating.. I still have 20 more to go and I can't help but wonder how many I will be able to perform before going stark raving mad. While I currently have good medical coverage I hate to think about how much out of pocket expense I still am going to occur.

The type of infection I have is contracted through a puncture of the skin. The only places that has occurred was in the doctor's office during the 3 times the bursae was drained, and in the operating room when it was removed. Yet neither the doctors or the hospital is liable. The costs incurred for treatment must be borne by myself and my insurance. Doesn't seem quite right.

Have you ever noticed how we accept doctors practicing medicine rather than performing. When people hire us they expect us to be knowledgeable and fully capable to build them a house. They would not allow us to practice building one. Will Rogers once said that the best doctor is a veterinarian since their patients can't tell him what is wrong, the vet just has to know.

Yesterday, David and I, took the chicken carcasses to the Howell Nature Center. While there we decided to take a quick tour of the facility. When we got to their primary rapture rehabitation building we met two women that were working with a broadwing hawk. In our conversation I mentioned that we had brought more chickens and they told us how much the eagles had enjoyed the chickens I had given them earlier. She went on to say that while they would much prefer fish, the chickens were a welcome change from their normal fare of rats. I ask if they would like me to bring them the carcasses from the steelhead we catch. She said the eagles would be thrilled. After removing the fillets from a fish quite a lot remains, so from now on I will be saving fish parts for them.

Lady-- have you seen this? http://m.instructables.com/id/Shaded-Yarn-Skein-Dyed-With-Kool-Aid/all/?lang=pt

Here's my current project. Please tell me the 1st 2 words that come to mind.
This will measure 58" long by apx 50" wide.

Yummy. Um, but that's just one word, sorry. I'm guessing it's an afghan then, by the dimensions? I love cables and textures. It looks like it will be SOFT and WARM. There, two words. I just knit a hat with a cable pattern and seed stitch scarf out of my sheep's wool. I should get a photo of it to share. My ravelry page has not been properly updated.

I have seen that, well, not that actual webpage but that technique, yes. Before we moved, about two years ago, I was experimenting with dyes a lot and tried some koolaid. My issue with it is that the yarns I use are handspun and after you put all that time and effort into spinning them, you really don't want to taint them with a children's drink, lol. So I tried to be more sophisticated with natural dyes - plus there's just something about being able to dye such bright colors with something that you allegedly feed your children, a bit disturbing to me. We also stopped buying our kids fruit snacks about the same time. Heheh. Um, anyway, yeah. So I've dyed with cochineal, indigo, walnuts, sandalwood, flower petals, cutch, logwood, etc. I love to dye things with a pattern like that though, usually dipping different parts of the hank into the dye and concentrating color in some areas. Haven't done much dyeing since we moved which is a shame and my Etsy shop is still in vacation mode from the summer. Color sells. Natural, not so much. Of course, having the shop open helps too.

Thank You All! Whenever I show it off IRL, the 1st 2 words out of anyone's mouth have been "Michigan State"... Which really was not my intent. Actually has created a bit of an issue for me, since the person I originally planning to gift this to is very Pro-Wolverines! So y'all did make me feel a bit better about the colors. I guess I will decide later who will get it. I appreciate the compliments, too. :)

Cables are easy, it's the seed stitch that drives me crrrraaaaaszzzzzzzyyyyy! My 1st cable project was a v-neck sweater vest done in Box Stitch back when DS was Kinder age. The vest had a Staghorn Cable that ran the center front. I must have donated it, but I'd love to make another one day. The Staghorn Cable is my favorite.

The afghan is 2 strands, the green is a fuzzy acrylic and the white is simply WW. I really prefer natural myself, but for ease of care for gifting (& price!) I suppose its the way to go. The white skein I'm working with is "contrary" -- both ends of the yarn come out one side and I've been fighting the knots for 2 days now. Finally I did cut it and now am trying to just make a yarn ball but even that is wicked PITA. (If offended, I am sorry). I'd be very interested to see your dyeing techniques, Lady. I did just get a lead on a few bags of raw wool. Not sure of age or condition tho. Plus I lack a spinning wheel or other. Or the time to actually do it! Lady, you'll get your shop up, I know that! Have a good day y'all. Little dust of snow here,

Take heart in knowing that in 28 days the daylight hours will start increasing.

It was 26 degrees when I looked at the thermometer. Now that the sun is up, the temperature is rising. I have 2 outdoor weather stations at different places in the yard. It is interesting to see how much they can differ in readings. Sun angle and tree cover sure make a difference. Same with the anemometers, one is on the peak of the garage and the other is on a 6 foot post in the garden. The readings can be quite different.

Yeah, I have my geek on this morning.
