Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Pepper was trying to smoke yesterday. She was running around with a cigarette butt. In my attempts to grab her, she dropped it.

It was probably from someone who stopped by to buy our dirt bike and was smoking.

I am actually looking forward to more snow at the end of the week. I have not enjoyed driving in it but the tracks have been so much fun to read. I know when Mr. Pheasant has been around by his tail marks. We have rabbit, mouse, squirrel. Of course all the chickens....everywhere! Then there was the coyote up next to my coop and the deer who walked through the driveway. Then there was some unknown, small like fox but not straight so I'm thinking cat. Anyway they are now impossible to read because there are so many jumbled up, we need a clean slate again.

Tomorrow since it is the good driving day of the week I will be headed south of Traverse. We are picking up a hedgehog for my son. Then the trick is trying to keep her hidden until Christmas. I say I can do it, DH says he bets I can't. But we are going to try. I really didn't want to pick it up this early but with work schedules and not knowing what the weather will do I guess it is better this way.

I hope you get some good news Opa.

Question. What affects the fluidity (runniness) of eggs whites? A relative asked me and I honestly don't know. A friend of theirs was complaining about the runniness of whites in commercial eggs so the relative asked me (as to imply that mine were not runny because they are "superior" eggs). Actually, mine are really runny and one egg will spread to fill over half of a small frying pan. I don't think I've ever had a runny commercial egg so I'm confused and didn't know what to tell them. Anyone know?

Not sure lady. Maybe fresher eggs are moister because it hasn't had time to evaporate through the shell. (washed eggs will dry out faster)... But maybe someone else will know. My eggs seem to be runnier if they are fresher.

Sam... I really hope you get the all clear. It gets me, that a hospital is supposed to be so darn clean.... yet the hospital has the worst of the worst infectious diseases. Makes me think that maybe they should start doing surgeries in peoples homes... they're probably cleaner!

Hopes cookies look yummy! PS... Don't forget that I owe her a drawing!

You should come over and take some chicks off my hands while you're nearly at my house! Want a partridge silkie cockerel?

Best of luck in keeping the present hidden, and drive safely!

Trying to get my late-season bowhunting in. Last night was bearable for me since the temperature was in the upper 30s when I went out, but as soon as the sun dipped below the horizon I got cold quickly. And just when I was thinking I should pack up and head in before deer came in and I got "stuck" waiting for them to leave, 2 DID come in. One small buck and a large doe-fawn. We have a "3 on one side" antler point restriction in our area this year, and I couldn't tell for sure if they buck had brown tines or not. We have had our trail camera out since late september and have no pictures of that buck. While he was in the camera did take 2 pictures, but he was angled in such a way that you STILL can't see if he has brows or not. Hopefully he comes back tonight, and my fingers aren't too frozen or numb to feel for the trigger on my crossbow.

Well dang, that makes too much sense, at least from your and my observations - not my relative's friend so much unless something got lost in the translation which is entirely possible.

All the cookies look good.
Opa, good luck getting the all clear today!!!
I notice the whites on my chicken eggs run a bit, but on the duck eggs they are very thick n firm. So glad the pullets started laying, the others are still molting, but back to getting 2-5 eggs a day. With all the baking, I've actually been waiting for the girls to lay to do another batch of anything. Suppose to be warm next 2 days, hopefully can get out and do a lil socializing with the girls and extra cleaning. Enjoy your day!!

is always fun
on the egg whites, I am not sure why but our leg horns always laid runny whites, fresh or old, didn't matter, that is why my son and DH prefer the blue eggs"taste better" I think they tend to be fermer

Good luck..if DH can get me a blind back up (mine NEW condo got trashed in that wind storm a few weeks ago), I may do the same tomorrow night as it is supposed to be warmer. We haven't had any deer showing up & realized the one corn field behind our woods is STILL up .. they were taking it down yesterday & DH said there were "200 deer" there (ok, I am SURE he was exaggerating a tad); SO, we suspect they will be back in our area soon (at least by muzzle loader this weekend, tho, I will still probably bow hunt). I am SOOO about to quit my job...
