Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hockey Game could be fun! I love all y'all's Roosters... I want one but really I don't think any rooster would be at all happy living with my grody ducks. My water patio was poop soup today. And yes I shoveled! :) Hopefully Spring 2014 will be the year for chickens.

Anybody locking their birds up tonight bcz of weather?

I don't let mine out in the "in between" weather. Damp+freezing=frozen combs.

My poor henry is possibly loosing one of his points on his beautiful crown comb. (EE/ buttercup cross possibly) I have him in a coop where there is NO moisture build up, but this warm and damp air got to him somehow anyway. :( As soon as i saw it i grabbed my chapstick, which has peppermint oil and almond oil in the ingredient list. He tolerated it well, even let me massage the area. At least some of the color returned to the white area, but not the purple tip. So every day now for several days i massage the peppermint chapstick into the comb to boost circulation and hope for the best. I don't have current pics to show damage.

Happy Solstice Everyone!! Haven't posted here for a long time...or maybe ever. Just wondering of anyone near Paw Paw Michigan wants this 8 month old Dark Brahma mix rooster. Not a great pic, 2 roos Sr. in front, Jr in back, they look like twins. Pic was taken a months or so ago while Sr was molting, Jr's hackles and saddle are fully filled out like Sr's now. He's a pretty mellow guy, just not enough room, or hens, for 2 boys. I know it's long shot, but you never know. He'll be stew if no one wants him.
Man, beautiful rooster! I would take him, but we are dropping roosters off today at someone's place, and I don't want to drive another 1 and a half.

Someone needs to make a winter hat for these birds! Bet someone could do that and make a buck at it also. I'd buy some!

I didn't make the hat, he wouldn't let me take it off!

I found the roosters theme song! Salt dances and King Henry crows to 'counting stars' and the other way around to 'demons' lol

We are specifically looking for green and/or blue egg layers. How far north are you?

Went out to give the chickens their snack at 2:30pm and they were already on the roosts. If it weren't for the four eggs they left me, I would have thought they never got up this morning.

Thanks for the offer that's still a little far. Lansing, Port Huron and Toledo would be about the furthest. Anything between Howell , Monroe and Armada would be Ideal.

if you'd be interested... I have 3 silkies you could have for free. 2 white hens 1 black something or other color roo. He is wonderful with the hens. They are not pure bred, they are part uggo. The one hen hatched her own clutch last year (the other silkie hen is one of her offspring) and is a good mom. They are small but great to have a brood hen if you want to hatch eggs. I could meet you in Ann Arbor or I live west of Manchester. Let me know.

Thank you for the kind words regarding Bruna.
We have a friend who is Native American..he came over and said prayers for her, smudged us both, and we gave her back to the earth. It was beautiful and comforting.
