@Peep-Chicken

Ah! Bonnie even looks like a sweetheart from that close-up face pic :)

So, I got into a class I have to take for work. It just so happens it is the ONE week in Jan that we are both have to travel. A good friend will be staying at the house. BUT, this is the FIRST time I have to leave the "kids" :(. (Have left pup & kitties plenty of times, just never the chickens).

Then, I am trying to get into a TWO week course that starts 1 week after I get back from the other (unfortunately it is not offered in Hawaii, but at least it IS further south, Alabama). Then I have 3 more I need to try & get into & done before April...silly I even have to do it & I won't go into all the sordid details other than I fought against the absurdity & lost, so I just resigned myself to doing it ...

I guess on the positive side, I am fortunate that someone can come stay at the house other than just coming by once or twice per day :D

Thanks for the advise on our KC. She (and all the other ducks) were allowed to "bathe" yesterday for a bit. The hen's wound was drenched with epsom solution and examined better. The wound has a flap of skin with quills that is detached and hanging. I feel it's best to let that resolve itself. The wound is scabbing over. She favors one of her wings but it's not broken. Probably sore from the tussle with the critter that attacked her. I'm probably going to keep her isolated for two weeks and then back to her boys. Hopefully she'll continue to recover.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

John

In this pic, I am sure Bonnie was thinking "It's a egg! No need to get so EGGcited on me. I lay them all the time!"

Well Bonnie, who knows if this is your hundredth egg or not, I'm just happy we finally got a egg

I realize that during the holiday season mailed items will take longer than normal, however, I recently purchased a 4 qt pressure cooker on E-bay. The seller shipped it immediately on the 18th and paid the additional fee for 2 day priority mail. When checking the post office site for package tracking it showed that the package had taken 3 days to travel a total of 56 miles to the major hub in Columbus, Ohio. Still waiting for it to leave that facility. Once it leaves there, and if it travels at the same rate of speed, it will only take 10 days to arrive.

Funny you mention that, Opa.

The item I purchased on eBay at the end of Nov, took 8 days to get here. Same thing. Seller paid the additional for 2 day USPS priority. On top of it, the tracking didn't update for 3 days, so I really had no clue what the status was....showed "expected delivery 4 Dec" from 2 - 5 Dec. Finally, on 6 Dec it updated & was delivered. And, there was no "holiday" excuse for USPS for that transaction.

Bonnie looks like a sweetie, congrats on the egg..

my youngest leghorn gave me a egg yesturday.. i have 3 older ones and rescued her at 2 mos old back in aug or sept.. was wondering when she would start laying, knew it would be soon since she has been dating (mating) with my rooster.. gathered 4 white eggs.. only it wasnt tiny like the other 3 when they started laying.. now i am wondering if she wasnt laying sooner and i have not noticed it. because i only got 3 white eggs a day. idk maybe i am thinking to much..

John- Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you to..

I won't be online after today so I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Merry Solstice and Merry Holiday Season.... no matter what you do..or don't do.

We're having everyone over to our house. About 14 people total... this will be interesting.

I ordered some books on Friday/Saturday from Amazon and opted for the free shipping. It was supposed to be about a week. Just checked the tracking number and both shipments are at the local hub.
Makes me think that the express fees are a scam.

The post office will refund your shipping fees if an item doesn't arrive in the advertised time. When I ship things to my sons in Missouri paying for 2 day priority means I could ship for free.

Hi Everyone,

I am getting prepared to get a small flock in my backyard. My wife and I started exclusively buying free range eggs about 6 months ago. We noticed a profound difference in the quality and flavor. The next logical step is to get our own backyard girls to bring some fresh eggs, keep the yard in order and bring that home feeling. Right now I am designing their coop and getting some of the supplies necessary. I bought a book that recommended this site and I am glad I did. There is a large wealth of information here!

If anyone is located near Farmington Hills my wife and I would love to meet up with you and discuss what you have learned along the way. Always best to learn from the collective rather than making the same mistakes. Feel free to message me directly.

Take care!
James
