Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

SillyChicken, your not alone! I think just about everyone has something chicken in the kitchen. It must have started with the chicken or the egg thing! How about cookie jars or tea pot and toaster covers? Its addictive! I even hace a clock with a rooster face on it. Imagine that! :cd

28 where I am........ it's coming your way! You know, another option for fresh air is to take a shower Raz... just sayin.
It's not Saturday yet.

For many folks chickens and all things chicken related is a fascination that never diminishes. I was enthralled with the first chicks I got in 1951 and all these years later watching chicks is still enjoyable. Jimmy welcome to our mania.

Hi Everyone,

If anyone is located near Farmington Hills my wife and I would love to meet up with you and discuss what you have learned along the way. Always best to learn from the collective rather than making the same mistakes. Feel free to message me directly.

) Heck, I've even had the window open for some fresh air.

we haven't seen temps that warm for a long time, Friday's ice storm left the kids very happy, Christmas break started a day early, just walking out to the chickens was hard work, had to shovel the ice away from the door to the run then try to stay up-right as I went through,Even the dog is sliding all over.
Only blanch whole cobs, drop in a sink of ice/water mix, remove when cooled ( very quickly), put them on cookie sheets and flash freeze (my deep freezer), next day I vacuum seal. They are never mushy. We drop the whole cobs in boiling water and eat corn on the cob year around. Did I say never mushy?
thank you I may try freezing some next yr. last time I did it on the cob the hens got most of it,they like mushy.

1mutsfann, you can keep the snow up by you, if we get much more on top of this ice all the trees may come down
power was out for about 24hrs. not to bad. fire place keeps it warm and generator to run water pump, furnace and fridge. the guys managed to run cords to a TV also.

Aww yum. Thanks Fuzzy. :) I've baked my Gram's English shortbreads, similar recipe to the one on the link, except 1# butter, 4c total sugar, almost 2c oil & 9 c flour. Yep, no calories there!! Plus: Cranberry-orange Pinwheels and Chocolate Gingerbread rounds, plus a leftover date cookie. I think I'm done. But I'm still going to go thru the recipes at the link! :)

Thanks snowflake!

Not familiar with Buisque?

Do you have a rooster for those Americanas (EE's?) maybe you'll have some fertile eggs around the end of January? I could drive up and buy some. Will put out the call here again then.

I believe she meant Basque (aka euskal oiloa), autocorrect can be a pain.

My mom lives in Okemos and her power is out, since her phones all rely on power we have not been able to call her. Was starting to get worried but she went to the library and sent an email that she was ok. Still worried as she does not have heat, but she sounded pretty cheerful.

COOKIES

Given my age and my love of food, particularly desserts, I must have consumed literally thousands of pounds of holiday food. Also since I weigh exactly the same as I did in 1964 I think proves that anything consumed between Thanksgiving and New Years contains zero calories.

Now if I could figure out how to get anything back in the same places it was in 1964 I would be a happy man.
