In some ways i think it is good for my one leghorn roo he had such a huge big comb his first winter and now it looks all rounded down almost like its dubbed or a rose comb so now in winter I dont worry about him

we got like a foot of snow. And the sun is shining:D

Yay, for Holland, It is a great relief to see some common sense, chickens kept clean are no different then cats or dogs, no one keeping chickens as a hobby wants 4999 most of us wanting small farms with an extra income want that many, Would be nice if GAMPS would follow their lead and listen to the People, We are not big ag and don't want to be and they should be able to allow a little competition.

I forgot how fast this thread moves. I just checked and have 100% fertility on some Legbar, Welsummer, Norwegian Jaerhon, Rhodebar, and project eggs!!! Looks like I'll have some chicks in a few weeks here. That's pretty amazing considering the subzero temperatures!!!!

And last, but not least, the immigration plan straight from MI govt itself: (thousands of passports to be given out, increasing in number over the next several years)

Add this together with china taking over the US's biggest pork producer(the deal went through)

MI suddenly developing a very strict allowance of what is and isn't a feral pig (*most heritage breeds would be described as "feral" following those guidelines) Whole operations were shot up by swat teams.

and the mineral rights stink a couple years ago http://articles.petoskeynews.com/keyword/mineral-rights/recent/2

and our new battle with whether we are allowed to have our little homesteads, and you see why i'm a tad nervous right now. That's why i keep repeating that this is NOT about chickens in the city, I firmly believe it's a decoy argument that is so far working to keep big ag out of the fight. (while big ag could potentially lose their rights thanks to the township's ability to re-zone anyone residential on a moment's notice)

I can't stand politics, but if there is one thing i've learned it's that you gotta at least keep up with the basics!

Sigh.

Happy/ funny coop news:
A lot of you know that my birds are kept out on DH's family's property (we live in a town) Today i ended up driving through drifts and finally stopping at the beginning of the dead end dirt road they are on; walked 9/10 of a mile on a tire track through drifts that ranged from knee deep to waist deep; finally getting to the house and starting the 200 feet trek back to the coop which was pretty much all thigh deep with ice layers under the banks which broke as i walked and let me sink DEEPER........ turn around and walk BACK 9/10 a mile on the track again..........but don't worry the girls presented me with *4* eggs, LOL. "extreme poultry" anyone???!

I can't wait for spring!!! We ought to have our own poultry reality show in MI :p

Excellent citations. I agree that this is much bigger than backyard poultry. But backyard chickens are a pretty easy target. Sadly, most people don't realize their rights until they are stripped away. Then it is too late.
