Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thanks to all who spoke up! Do I understand right that the four who spoke were all BYC people? If so that's very sad that more people don't know what's going on. Raz have you heard anything about meetings that are up at my end of the state? I have been listening for something up north my way, which has lots of small farmers, but have heard nothing.
The last meetings are in Lansing (October 31 and December 12). I have to look up the specific addresses. Phone calls, letters and e-mails are still good if you can't attend in person.

However, each county Farm Bureau is meeting this month to discuss their mission for the upcoming year. You can look for your county's meeting place and time.

Thank you to those who represented us today! I started my internship, and couldn't be there. Raz, Twisted Rooster is great! As you probably noticed, they serve a lot of Michigan-based food there.
It was a big day today: my son started preschool today AND we got our first egg.
I am curious about which hen gave us this gift. Hazel has looked ready for weeks now. Alice did the squat and tap dance last night. My daugter was so excited to find it this afternoon after school that she called all of the contacts in my phone (well, the ones she knows anyhow) to tell them the news.

Umm, does anyone else have birds that are molting? Eggs have gone down to almost zero (except for the ducks) and there are feathers everywhere! You'd think it stormed feathers, hah! I rake them up and within a day or two the coop area is covered again.

Sad to report that a few day old chick died today. A new mama hen has five chicks, and this one drowned in the duck pool. No idea how it even got in there (the lip is pretty high), and I have rocks as a ramp out. It probably got waterlogged before it could get out. So for now, I've drained the duckie kiddie pool.

Hey - this is wingless, the fourth musketeer at the Ag Commission meeting today. I thought fuzzy, farmerboy16 and RaZ did great work, and altogether we covered a lot of ground. I think it is now clear to all the commissioners that the issues they'll be voting on in December are very significant, and deserve considerable attention. That's a big win all by itself.

I also really loved seeing your farm, farmerboy. Thanks so much for showing us around - and if you're ever in Ann Arbor be sure to come visit my birds! (Yes, I really do only have 3...)

Is that a pink EE egg???

I wondered if you were another BYC'er!
x 2! We may have been only a few, but we definitely made them think! :)

Btw, guys, whether the case is won or lost, we got to have a voice! (Byc too, apparently, since we are the only ones representing) That is a reason to feel proud. I am glad to have my BYC friends. I would never have had the guts to do something like this before! I really hope that they do go through and make the revisions. The whole fight against chickens is silly, no one did ever clarify exactly what exactly about them is being objected to? We gotta get the news out before the next couple meetings.

I wish i could've gotten to see the pigs and the cows. I had to do that appointment and go watch over my feathered kids though, i have had a hawk hanging close too.

If anyone lives in the Manistee or Ludington area, my dog has been missing since Monday. He is a six month old border collie. If you know anyone in the area please share his photo and my contact info; my # is 440-309-0046
