Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I was greeted this morning on my birthday morning with Cream Legbar, Rhodebar, Norwegian Jaerhon, and Welsummer chicks beginning to hatch. What a great birthday treat to wake up to.

Yayy and Happy Birthday!

@glambka

I've got one duck that *sometimes* will lay the blueish egg (Runner). Mostly the blue value is only obvious when the egg is next to the other white eggs. But I'd be more than happy to help, but honestly, I'd much rather trade in -kind for another one of your beautiful pysanky for my ornament exchange next year. I also have Rouen, KC, and a few mixes of those.

Each day I watch the flock of 25 hen turkeys in my yard hoping to see some toms joing them. Once they arrive and start dancing spring will actually be on its way. This winter has seemed exceptionally long and I am anxiously waiting for any sign that it grasp has loosened. The welcomed appearance of the sun today is actually quite deceiving. The temperature is still a single digit and I've been procrastinating going out to water the birds.

Another inch of snow is forecasted for tomorrow and an additional 3 to 4 for Monday night. The snow just keeps coming and inching us closer to the highest recorded snowfall. I'm sure getting tired of winter.

We need to find a way to box it all up and sell it to California.

One of the myths that the ordinance nazi likes to spread is that "chickens cause rats and mice" and "wood piles cause rats", yadda-yadda-yadda.

With all the snow we have had it is easy to check for critter sign. I check my wood piles, garage, porch and all other areas that could be hiding rodents and there has not been a single sign of them. I've even checked the vacant house next door since they always seemed to have a mouse problem, there are no tracks except for the squirrels.

The only vermin around here is the local officials.

Mice also tunnel in and under the snow so you oftentimes don't see evidence of an "infestation" until the snow melts. I've always delighted in following the tunnels they make and when I was a kid, I wanted to be able to burrow in the snow like that. I have watched my barn cats digging and jumping on mice deep in the snow this winter. They do a good job because we've only seen one mouse in the house this year. That one entered the house from above the snow and left cute little tracks, a field mouse. Our "fierce" house cat took care of it in short order (he doesn't kill mice, just corners them for me to dispatch - the twerp).

Been working on wool this past week. Here is a lamb fleece soaking in the tub.

Washed, dried and sorted into three piles, black, white and mix.

Drum-carding the black wool that has been brushed
(sorting and brushing are good projects to do while watching the Olympics, as would hand-carding)

Here's a hat/scarf I made out of my sheep's wool a few months ago.
I spun the yarn from the 50/50 mix of white and black wool and threw in a little brown alpaca for extra softness.
It's super warm and not at all scratchy, not even against my neck.

Oh and here's our "fierce" mouser. Twerp.

Thanks! It was a free pattern from Vogue Knitting. You have to register to download their free patterns but they are otherwise free - unless you consider registering your soul to a website a price to pay and sometimes I do feel that way.

It's not a true cable but a faux cable pattern and as such, knits up really fast. I think it took me all of two days to knit the thing.

ETA: Not sure why the preview of the pattern lists "polyfil stuffing" with the materials.

Lady.. what kind of drum carder are you using? I'm looking for supplies... is there a reasonably priced place to buy from?
