I add Calf Manna for both the horses and the chickens in the winter. For the chickens I mix it in with their scratch grain, you could also add it to the feed.

Goat lovers... thought this was about spot on. I can see our goats doing exactly this if given the opportunity.
I just saw that on FB and was gonna share - small world! I'm going to try and make one this summer for my acrobats.Goat lovers... thought this was about spot on. I can see our goats doing exactly this if given the opportunity.
No. But some people say the best syrup is cooked over wood. I use apple also. The steam rises so fast that the soots never seem to get in the syrup. I filter mine thru cheesecloth anyway. One thing though - I usally always have a fine sediment. It never hurts a thing and when you pour it stays packed down. When I sell I always"rack" my syrup just like when I make wine. My wine is so crystal clear, hmmm, time to pop a cork on some tart cherry....Does the cherry impart any flavour to the syrup? Or it is more your your nose enjoyment? I like to use cherry and apple in my smoker for the nice flavour it adds to the meat.
I was there yesterday and they said the first week of March.
They say the same about cooking moonshine. Wood fired is better. I was wondering if the soots swirled up and into the open pot. Now I know.No. But some people say the best syrup is cooked over wood.
