Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Oh my I see chick for flowers exchanges in some ones future.

I love iris' as well. But my friend (named Iris by the way) bought some 'black' ones and now thinks they pollinated and changed all of her yellow and blue to black. That is the only thing she had bloom in the whole bed this year. Could that be?

Anyway it would be a good idea I think for egg or other poultry exchanges for bulbs! In the future I will have Heritage RIR to offer but am just starting with them.
Yep iris will cross pollinate and change colors.

Here's my acre field of them. Rows are 6ft wide and 75-100ft long. It's a lot of work to keep up with and really hard to keep the weeds at bay but I manage. Last yr was my 1st spring seeing a lot of them as I have been collecting for yrs but moved 4 times during that plus slapped these in the ground when I bought my farm in October 2008. Ever since they really have not bloomed due to either too much rain or frost. In Sept/Oct 2012 I made these new rows and replanted every single one by hand. Took 2 months to do it. Got my fingers crossed to see a full bloom this yr! Theres hundreds I never seen in person, just off pictures I bought from www.BlueJIris.com or when a local breeder who gave me most from his 5 acre field. The pics of flowers above where 1st time seeing them in my own field so I went camera crazy as they bloomed!

Wow, the easiest way to get to the coop today would have been with ice skates! The girls still wanted to free range for a short time while I was doing chores.

mindylee- thanks for the great pics, it's nice to see a reminder of what's to come.

Broke down and picked up a Welsummer roo chick - they don't seem to be selling well here, and I'll bet we won't see Townline hatch them next year if they don't sell. Here he is and I compared him to one of the girls.

Quote: Hmmm - just substitute Chickens for Iris Flowers and I recognize quite a few BYC members.

Beautiful flowers by the way, I know Irises can be a lot of work. My soil is too wet and heavy for them to grow well.

@JackieandChicks Beautiful little chickies!

@mindylee and @1muttsfan : With enough time there will be chicken addiction too!

That's not nuts it just happens to the best of us! At BYC we just happen to be the best!

My injured girl in her cat carrier. Her crest feathers are rubber banded so she can see. She has sat there all day very contentedly except when Titus decided she needed to be cleaned and tried licking her.

I believe the injury was caused by some rowdy bantam boys, so they are off to freezer camp tomorrow at my brothers. I am considering sending a few hens I don't like, (they don't like me either) but it makes me feel guilty so I'm not sure.
